Romans 12-1 Corinthians 12
Spiritual Gifts

*** Bible text used: Romans 12:3-8, 1 Peter 4:10-11, 1 Corinthians 12 – 14, Ephesians 4:7-13***

I. We are all given different spiritual gifts so that we can work together as one group in Christ, and thus further His kingdom here on Earth:
a. Think about it – if we all had the gift of encouragement – what would happen? Nothing. We'd all go around encouraging people, but there would be no one to evangelize (preach the gospel) to others who are not yet saved.
b. And, the same goes for the opposite of that = if we all had the gift of evangelism and we all went around evangelizing, we would soon grow weary and tired if there wasn't anyone there to encourage and build us up.
i. See Corinthians 12 – 14 and Romans 12:3 – 8
II. Although there seems to be certain gifts that are held in higher esteem or value than the rest, it is not true. Every gift is important in the goal of furthering the Kingdom of God.

For instance = the Bible calls saved believers in Christ (Christians) who fellowship and are active in church the "Body of Christ" (anyone who is saved becomes part of this "body" in which we are all connected and focused on furthering the Kingdom of God. Why is it called the "body"? Think about it = just like a body needs all of it's parts to fully function – like the eyes, and hands, and fingers, and toes, and feet – so too does the church need all of the spiritual gifts in order to fully function properly. Think about it = if you stub your little toe, your whole body reacts to the pain – you cry out, you hop around, you curse, you grab your foot = this is the same way the Body of Christ responds to losing a member, or if there is a certain spiritual gift that we

A great chasm exists that separates unbelievers from believers1. An example of this chasm is presented in the Gospel of Luke, “And in hell he lifted up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off and Lazarus in his bosom.”2 The chasm is presented in the “afar off” statement. This chasm, as pointed out by David Wheeler and Richard Leach, is what makes evangelism necessary. Essentially, every Christian is to seek a way to bridge these chasms bringing the unbeliever face-to-face with their Creator3. In order to perform this great task, and the task was as great in the Apostles’ day as today, “Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few; Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest”4 the Christian servant today must rely on the Lord in every aspect and seek out opportunities to present Christ to those around him. Seeing then that there is such great work ahead, and the laborers have been assigned their task, “For he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God: for God giveth not the Spirit by measure unto him”5, the only success to be found is through sharing the faith by the Word of God through the Spirit…

Biblically defining baptism is, being immersed in water, publically repenting of your sin, and receiving of the Holy Spirit. (Matt. 3:11, Luke 3:7). All four gospels described the Holy Spirit descending upon Jesus, after being baptized in water, in the form of a dove (Matt 3:16, Mark 1:10, Luke 3:22, John 1:32). Being baptized unites us as one body and One Spirit (1 Cor. 12:13). Controversy begins with how one interprets 1 Cor. 12:10-13, which describes the gifts relating to one body united in Spirit Baptism, and receiving the gifts of the Holy Spirit. This verse, if taken in literally, leaves room for discrepancy to its true meaning. Paul explains that everyone is not gifted equally. He asks “All are not apostles, prophets, or teachers, are they?” (v. 29). This reveals that not everyone will have the gift of tongues, yet it does not mean that they have not received the Holy Spirit. Furthermore, 1 Cor. 14:22 reveals the gifts of speaking and interpreting tongues is not for the believer, but for the unbeliever to hear the Gospel no matter his spoken language. This proves the argument that the gift of tongues is not necessary for Spirit…

In the book of Acts, Paul spent special time with new believers, teaching and encouraging them (Acts 17-20). As a result they eventually influenced their entire region. We can help guide and encourage believers to grow, but the bottom line is that God's the one in charge. What a relief.…

Disadvantages of Using This Method – The disadvantages of this method are unbelievers can confuse this type of evangelism with works. The unbeliever can assume again that if I do good things then I am saved. We as Christians have to make certain that we are presenting that God is the way. We have to get the unbeliever to confess and believe in their heart that Jesus is Lord.…

PART ONE: What are your top two spiritual gifts? Do you agree with the results? Why or Why not? My top two spiritual gifts are; Evangelist, Pastor/Shepherd. I agree with the results because I have grown up in church I was a nine month before birth in the church kind of child. There have been many people I look up to. One person I really look up to is my youth pastor. From my tenth grade year I had this youth pastor. In my eleventh grade year he had this conversation to me about a certain situation. Because of this conversation it has brought me to be so much closer in my walk with Christ that i was before. I also want to be able to impact peoples lives just as my youth pastor did. As I continue on this Christian journey, I pray that God will lead me where I can be used by God to help people daily. There is, no better gifts than the gifts from God. I truly love telling people about Him.…

As we’ve been focusing on some ways that we can improve our serve, I want to suggest this morning that it’s possible to get so caught up in what we call our spiritual gifts that we might not survive servanthood. The key is not so much to identify what we have but to use what we’ve been given. 1 Peter 4:10: “Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms.”…

A spiritual gift is a divine gift bestowed upon a believer from the Holy Spirit to be used to edify in the ministry of God. They are to be used within the body of Christ to allow the work of God to grow the church. A spiritual gift is used to give glory to God through the person with the gift. We are shown this in 1 Peter 4:10 where it says, “As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.” We are all accountable for how we use the spiritual gifts that God has bestowed upon us.…
