1. The philosophy that I choose for my Physical Education Program would be the enjoyment of leisure activities for a lifetime. As a teacher I feel that my job is to teach the students how to make physical education a part of their life. The more I think about it I see that it is not all about teams sport as much as it is having the students develop a "womb to tomb" mentality.
2. The curriculum objectives of my Physical Education Program will include safe participation, improving fitness levels, maintain a lifetime of activity, and exhibit responsible behavior. First of all I want to make sure that my students are not getting injured. I want them all to participate in games that are fun and safe. I also want …show more content…
them to be exercising. This is P.E. class and I want the kids to maintain some kind of a fitness level. The goal of my program is to promote activity for a lifetime, so I am going to choose games and activities that can be used outside of school and for the rest of the students' lives. Finally, I would like to teach my students responsibility. I would like the games I play and the way I teach to help my students develop discipline and responsibility. Those are the things that I will ask myself when developing my own curriculum.
3.
The scope of my P.E. Program would be team sports, dance, aquatics, games, fitness, individual sports, and outdoor adventure in that order. I believe that keeping the individual activities towards the end of the semester will stress to students that just because school is over doesn't mean that they have to stop exercising. This will give the students some ideas for their summers and for the rest of their life. In the team sports unit we will play games like; basketball, baseball, football, floor hockey, and speedball. We will then do line dancing, square dancing and ballroom dancing in our dance unit. For aquatics we will try and just get exercise by working on the different types of swimming. For fitness we will set up individual conditioning programs for the students and they will work at their own pace to accomplish their goals. For individual sports we will play archery, bowling, and golf units. For the outdoor activities we will do some hiking and maybe do some map reading and trying to find things that are hidden around in that …show more content…
area.
4. I think that students should have daily physical education for the duration of their schooling. I want students to have the mind frame that physical activity needs to become an every day activity for the rest of their lives. I think that P.E. is just as important as any other class, and with the amount of overweight people today we need to have class every day. I think that the students must pass four years of P.E. so if they failed one semester they will have to either take two classes or take it in summer school. I don't think that other activities should award you credit. I think that any sport is just a bonus, but I want all of my students to participate in the school P.E. program. I would not award alternative routes for students to get credit, I want them to participate in my class.
5. I will have a uniform for my class. I think that students will need to have a separate t-shirt and shorts for P.E. I think that the shorts must be appropriate length for boys and girls. (Not below the knee, and not too short) The shirts must be a t-shirt, no tank tops or sleeveless shirts. Students will need to also have proper tennis shoes that can be used in the gym. I will ask that each student dress each day, and if they do not have their clothes then they can't participate. At the end of each week students will be required to take their clothes home and wash them for the next week. Students will not be required to purchase a certain uniform so money will not be an issue. Students will have to have a pair of plain shorts of any color, and a plain t-shirt that can also be any color.
6. Each student will be issued a locker and it is the students' responsibility to get a combination lock for that locker. Each student will bring one towel from home for days when he/she needs to shower. Showers will not be mandatory but I will tell students that it is encouraged on certain days. At the end of each week the student will be asked to take the towel home with the P.E. uniform and wash it. I will give the students extra time to shower on days where it might be necessary. I think that if the students needed to shower I would give them about twelve minutes to get showered and ready.
7. Participation will be required every day. Students will be eligible to earn four points each day. They will automatically get one point for dressing for class. They will then be awarded between one and three points for their level of participation. Any time a student is absent he/she will be asked to make that day up at a later time. For the make-up about every two weeks we will have one day where students who have missed a class period will have to do a make-up assignment. The students who have no absences will have a free day to play whatever they want. In order to get any points you must dress, because you can't participate if you do not have your uniform.
8. I will only accept doctor excuses for non-participation. I think that a parent's note will not be enough unless the kids have a visibly sprained ankle and there is no need to go to the doctor then. In a case like that I will accept a parent note. If the student can't participate with a doctor note then the child will be asked to write a paper on the history of whatever sport or activity we are playing. The length of the paper will depend on how long that child will be out.
9.
If the student has an excused absence, then once every two weeks we will have one free day. Students who have no make-ups will be able to do an activity of their choice, but students who have missed any time will have to do a different activity with the teacher to make up for missed time.
10. Students will be expected to properly take out and put the equipment away for each class period. That way each class can come and get the equipment out, and they will put it away for the next class to use it. This way all students in each class period will have to do the same amount with the equipment. Also each class will have to leave the equipment as they found it. All students are to respect the equipment and any mistreating will result in lost points and in some cases other discipline. As the teacher I will have the equipment ready in the morning and I will store it away at the end of the day.
11. I will grade my students depending on how many points they have. I will use a positive grading scale. I will look at their participation level as well as how many times they dressed out for class. I will then take an average of how many points they got over the quarter. I will grade on effort not
ability.
