The physical conditions that slaves endure were hard labor, beaten cruelly, separated from loved ones, sex abuse, and they were treated as property, and the psychological problems they faced were those problems relating to the basic needs, such as diet, clothing, shelter, medical care, work.
The amount of labor on the plantation farms was the same for both genders. The differences between the genders were the jobs appointed to them. Men were usually appointed jobs that included certain skills like carpentry, and women were usually working in the fields or as house servants. Both were forced to perform exhausting labor, and sometimes they were beating
cruelly. Besides, woman sometimes were sexually abuse by their owners. Families were often separated.
In addition some of the psychological problems they faced were basis needs such as diet, clothing, shelter, medical care, and work. Slaves live in a diet of pork and corn. Clothing was not the most fashionable, but it was sufficient to protect them. Man are given two pairs of pants, 2 shirts, a coat, and a pair of shoes, and women 2 dresses, a hat, a coat, and a pair of shoes. Shelter varies the most from owner to owner. Medical care was horrible, but it was the best available. Work was intense; they work from sunrise to sunset. They work 5 days a week, and half on Saturdays.
