Three functions of the heart = Transportation, protection, Body temperature control
De-oxygenated blood flows through the vena cava, it then enters the right atrium which gets pumped into the right ventricle which pumps it through the semi-lunar valve and through to the pulmonary artery. The blood flow then goes to the lungs where it is oxygenised, the newly oxygenised blood re-enters the heart via the pulmonary vein into the left atrium, the blood then goes through the mitral valve into the left ventricle. From here it is pumped by a strong muscle and straight through the aorta and around the body.
Pulmonary System = includes heart and lungs it carries De-oxygenated blood from the heart to the lungs to be oxygenated, blood then goes back into the heart to be pumped around the body.
Systemic System = Carries oxygenated blood around the body in the arteries. De-oxygenated blood goes back to the heart via veins (this is then oxygenised in pulmonary circuit).
Comparing Arteries, Veins and Capillaries = The difference between arteries, veins and the capillaries is that arteries will take blood away from the heart, the veins will take blood back to the heart while the capillaries are supplied with blood by the arterioles and drained by the venules.
Four components of blood = Plasma, Platelets, red blood cells, white blood cells.
How can blood pressure be reduced = naturally, you can lower blood pressure by changing to a healthier diet, exercise and weight loss.
Heart rate = Number of heart beats per minute
Stroke volume = Amount of blood pumped out of the left ventricle per beat
Cardiac output = Amount of blood pumped out the left ventricle per minute
Recovery rate = The time it takes for the heart to get to resting rate after exercise
Maximum heart rate = 220-(age)= maximum heart rate: My Maximum heart rate = 220-15=205
