Monday February 3rd 2014 Physical Activity in Students Students should be obliged to participate in 20 minutes of physical activity each day because it helps to improve fitness and heart health, mental health and achieve and maintain a healthy body weight. To begin with, Physical activity helps students improve fitness and heart health. Exercise in students increases muscles strength, reduces risk of type 2 diabetes and depression, and also improves balance and overall co-ordination. Science has shown that when teens increase their daily physical activity, they decrease their chances of developing many diseases such as heart disease and as a result, grow healthier and happier. Therefore, exercise contributes to a healthy body and heart. Secondly, physical activity amongst students improves their mental health. Also, helps reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety, helps relieve stress, and improves their academic performances. Now I know you are thinking, isn’t it too expensive to put your kids in sports and extracurricular activities? Well, children can get their recommended time of 60 minutes a day of physical activity without having to empty out your wallets. Simple actions like walking or riding their bikes to school or bringing in groceries can be counted as being active. By all means, I’m sure you want your children to live long, healthy and happy lives without having to worry about the risks of inactivity. In addition, physical activity help students to achieve and maintain a healthy body weight. Physical activity helps you to control your weight by using excess calories that would otherwise be stored as fat. Most foods and many beverages you eat and drink contain calories, and everything you do uses calories. This includes sleeping, breathing, digesting food, and moving around.
