Physician Assistant Personal Statement

My life has granted me fantastic opportunities to mature as a Christian woman, a researcher, and as an aspiring physician assistant applicant. My first exposure to PAs occurred while I was volunteering at the hospital. My science and counseling background drew me to the flexibility in medical fields, the trust placed in PAs, and the complexity in diagnosing illnesses in the PA practice. I oftentimes saw PAs working alongside doctors, nurses, and residents in improving quality health care. I find Seton Hall’s physician assistant program, the most feasible to develop scientifically, clinically, and ethically. PAs possess traits that parallel my own strengths. Like PAs, I have excellent relations with people in my care and with my superiors. Practicing as a massage therapist, teaching, visiting the homeless in Newark, and volunteering at hospitals has enabled me to interact with a variety of people. I work alone as a chemist and simultaneously as part of a health care team to better the treatment of our patients in pain management. Secondly, I have developed a passion for research and investigational skills that can help me in selecting appropriate tests and diagnosing illnesses. I attempt to make the most of experiences such as learning EKG patterns, performing blood withdrawals on bananas, reading the latest drug
My “Dreamer” status limited me to volunteer jobs. In that time, I learned to appreciate volunteer work especially since my job satisfaction is nowhere near that time. Lying and submitting false paperwork would have been dishonest and risky. After graduate school, I took the first available job in desperate need to sustain my mother and me. Despite a few difficult circumstances, everything I have ever needed was granted at the perfect time and from my experiences, I strongly believe I can handle the curriculum towards becoming a scientific and clinical professional physician
