I have deepened my theoretical knowledge as well as practical aspects by treating patients post-operatively as well as teaching total knee & total hip replacement exercise classes. During these classes I was responsible for ensuring all patients were supervised, supported and encouraged whilst carrying out exercises using equipment including an Alter G treadmill, exercise bike, wobble board, trampette and other equipment to aid in their rehabilitation. Throughout my time as a physiotherapy assistant I have learnt the important qualities needed from a physiotherapist including working well within multidisciplinary teams, building a rapport with patients assisting me in motivating them, ensuring they stick to given exercises, measuring and reflecting upon their progress and empathizing at all …show more content…
Travelling has given me the opportunity to learn key life skills in how to adapt and interact with people of diverse backgrounds which has proved valuable during my time as physiotherapy assistant. The interpersonal communication skills I have developed in how to communicate with a wide range of diverse cultures, religions and beliefs is essential when dealing with patients on a daily basis and knowing how to motivate them. My own interest in fitness and sport has given me a greater insight into what is needed to motivate patients in their rehabilitation and the importance physiotherapy plays in restoring fitness
