“Which has also caused independent movie companies to shut down there companies as well” (League). Independent companies such as Fox Atomic, Miramax Films, Paramount Classics, Paramount Vantage, Picturehouse, and Warner Independent Pictures had to close their doors permanently. I feel that the government should have some type of structure design to aid companies when they plummet due to pirating. In fact Forbes states that, “Indeed, there are real dollars being lost to piracy. An 11-employee Independent U.S. film distributor, Wolfe Video, has had its profits halved due to piracy and costs to mitigate damages from piracy”(Strauss). Losses of revenue, overheads, all contribute to the devastation, “Loss of revenue is of concern to networks and film company masters because it is illegal, cutting into profits and virtually unstoppable. It may even be of concern to workers on the lower rungs of the entertainment industry who find their salaries the means of cutting overhead to make up for losses due to piracy”(Strauss). People should feel guilty about it but this is not the case they tend to look at it as a victimless crime. Copying a film online can be extremely detrimental to the value of that film. There has been a drastic decline of jobs in the movie industry due to piracy (Brandon). From the producers to the actors and also the behind the cast workers have lost jobs due to piracy (Siwek). From 2008 until 2015 over a half million jobs has vanished due to piracy (Siwek). “Researcher Stephen Siwek, in a study for the Institute for Policy Innovation, found that the theft of movies through piracy results in the loss of more than 46,000 jobs in the motion picture industry and more than 94,000 jobs in other industries that otherwise would have been created”(Loeb). To think that the movie industries have no uncertainties is deceptive. “The notion that Hollywood and its movie moguls have no real worries is misleading. Along with the creators and artists there are droves of blue collar workers put at risk by piracy.
