You are encouraged to use as many resources as possible to assist you in this assignment. Several anatomy and kinesiology-type textbooks exist that offer considerable detail. The internet will be of value, as well as actual replications of joints that are professionally constructed and used in doctor’s offices or clinics. All resources must be referenced appropriately. If you need any help, please ASK me!…
The rectus abdominis is agonist on the way up in the standard sit up and is antagonist on the way back down. This means that on the way up it shortens to allow the movement to take place and then on the way down the muscle will relax again. The best example of agonist and antagonist movements is in a twist sit up. This is because when your internal oblique is agonist your external oblique is antagonist and vice…

Gluteus maximus is the large muscle in the each of the buttock which provides power when straightening the hips. Quadriceps is the large muscle group on front of the thigh which straightens the knee. Hamstrings are the large muscle group which is on the back of the thigh which bends the knee. Gastronomies are the calf muscle which lifts the heel and straightens the ankle. Latissimus dorsi is a large muscle on either side of the spine which supports the spine and stabilises the shoulder joint. Trapezius is the muscles on the spine which also raise the shoulder girdle. Biceps is the muscle which bends the elbow. Triceps is the muscle which straightens the elbow. Deltoid forms the curve of the…
Plantar warts develop on the bottom of your feet. They look different from regular warts in that they are flat and more spread out. They can be painful if you happen to develop a wart in an area where you bear weight such as a heel or ball of your foot. It isn't a good idea to use home remedies on plantar warts because you can damage healthy skin as well and that can make walking even more painful. Instead, you should see a podiatrist for treatment. Here's how a podiatrist can help your plantar wart.…
When the legs are opened without force and turnout is supported with the deep rotators, iliopsoas, and abdominals, one should be able to trace a line directly from the hip, through the center of the knee, and to a point between the second and third toe of the foot. A neutral or properly aligned pelvis is a good indicator as well because when the turnout is forced, generally the pelvis will tilt, creating a swayed back.…
The hip joint is a ball and socket joint which means it is freely moving and movement can occur in all directions. This hip joint connects the leg to the main torso and is the joint that allows the entire leg to be moved. In this case the femur, tibia and other bones in the leg and foot are being lifted behind the body in preparation for the kick. The agonist muscles, which are the gluteus maximus and hamstring, contract to perform hip extension moving the leg behind the body. While this movement is accomplished the antagonist muscles, which are the illiopsoas and quadriceps relax. Once the leg is at the apex of its backwards swing the gluteus maximus and hamstring relax, and the antagonist muscles for the backwards swing become the agonists. The illiopsoas and quadriceps then contract quickly to bring the leg forward in a swift motion. This movement is the execution phase of kicking a football. Hip flexion continues after the ball has been kicked in the follow through phase. The leg continues its swing and rises in the air after connecting with the ball. Once the leg reaches the apex of its anterior swing hip extends open so that the weight of the step may be placed on it. This phase is important as it is when the muscles and joints slow down and come to a stop. Without this phase the joints and muscles would come to a jarring stop and they could be damaged. The hips ball and socket joint is very important when playing…
How does history play a role in kinesiology you may ask? History plays a big part in everybody's daily lives. History informs you on things your memory can't recall from the past or maybe when things happened and you weren't even born yet. History consists of a ton of information normally about societies that differ from ours. A kinesiologist is knowledge about history of physical activity like the popularity of sports in college, or the lack of opportunity in sports across racial, ethnic, and gender lines. The knowledge of history can help us improve our decisions today. A perfect…

Hip flexors are a group of muscles located in your hips that assist you in moving your leg or knee upwards toward your body. It is located at the meeting point of the thigh and hip. When the fibers of these muscles are stretched or torn, it is called a hip flexor strain. Someone who is suffering from a hip flexor strain will experience a sudden or sharp pain located in the front of their hip or their groin area, indicated by the red circles in the photo to the right. This pain will occur when they are walking, running, or going up a flight of stairs. They will commonly struggle to walk without limping and may notice muscle spasms or weakness. In more severe cases, a hip flexor strain may come with moderate swelling or even visible bruising.…

By contrast, base movement always begins at the base and works up. You begin at ground level by placing the feet apart to give the body a wide stable base. This reduces stiffening of the tissues and muscles. Knees should be relaxed and slightly bent to give full mechanical advantage to the joint. The person who is moving or positioning the individual should have a good grip of the individual or their appliance, and lift their head first as they begin the upward movement. The back should straighten at the moment of lifting.…
