OVERVIEW
You are to construct a model or replica of an articulation incorporating a specific sport injury . You may use any materials to assist you in this task, keeping in mind the exact anatomy of the bones & joint that you are attempting to recreate. Your model will be presented in a class anatomy fair.
RESOURCES
You are encouraged to use as many resources as possible to assist you in this assignment. Several anatomy and kinesiology-type textbooks exist that offer considerable detail. The internet will be of value, as well as actual replications of joints that are professionally constructed and used in doctor’s offices or clinics. All resources must be referenced appropriately. If you need any help, please ASK me!
EXPECTATIONS
The JOINT should…
Move in the correct planes/axis according to the motion allowed by the joint;
Contain all anatomical criteria from checklist in the correct position;
NOT fall apart!
Contain parts that are approximately to scale of actual dimensions
Illustrate the specific injury to the joint
Demonstrate limitations caused by the injury
Be presented with an accurate logical legend
Illustrations can be included with the model presentation
The PRESENTATION should…
In posterboard, chart or powerpoint format
Only utilize correct anatomical language;
Briefly describe the type of joint, movement allowed at the joint, and primary structures associated to the joint (i.e. ligaments, muscles/tendons, cartilage/bursae, etc.);
Describe and demonstrate the sport injury; the mechanism of injury, assessment of injury, rehabilitation of the injury and prevention
Include a demonstration of the “joint in motion”
Discussion of common sport injury at this joint
Be directed to an educated audience – like our class!!
