Play Music Report Sample

The show that I saw for our music report was a musical called Alice and the Tea Party at the Santa Monica Playhouse. It was based on the books written by Lewis Carroll who wrote Alice and Wonderland. The characters consisted of two cards, Alice, a queen of hearts, and a white prince. All of these characters played an important role in those story in one way or another. The type of songs that they sang were two things: English music hall and patter. English music hall is a very old time of genre with repetitive versus invented in Britain which became popular in 1843. This type of song was also the type where the audience sang along as well. The costumes designed were beautifully crafted with different designs on almost everything. The actors and actresses were very interactive with the audience which is surprising to me because I’ve never seen that before. It’s smart because interacting makes more people want to watch and listen to what you’re doing and saying. Interesting fact is that all the people performing were all professional so this was all nothing new to them. Some actors had played multiple characters which meant they had to change very quickly between each parts. A tone color I would give this piece is red. Red is a very energetic, vibrant, bright, exciting, and attention seeking color which is how I would describe this play. I would also describe it as purple. Purple is a color that signifies power, ambition, magic, and mystery. The genre of this play was a musical. Musical theatre is a form of performance that combines songs, dialogues, acting, and dance. Musicals are very fun, entertaining, and they bring the audience together. I chose this play because I enjoy reading Lewis Carroll’s books and this theatre seemed to be perfect for the occasion.
