To be honest, I wasn’t a huge fan of last years PLTW, but this year blew me out of the water and into the world of medical detectives. As a gigantic Sherlock fan, just the name of this class excited me. I feel now that I have a newfound interest in science, fueled by all the crazy things we did. We did everything from dissecting a sheep brain to solving a murder. My favorite unit was the murder investigation. I love mystery and crime solving, ask any of my friends how happy I was that we did this. When it was announced we would be solving a murder, I may or may not have jumped around giddily after class. I had so much fun doing the math to find out how long the victim had been dead before the cops arrived, we walked through an autopsy, we compared …show more content…
The sheep heart was the first thing we dissected. I expected it to be disgusting, but oh was I wrong! It was so fun and interesting to slice open the heart and label all the separate areas. The second thing we dissected was a cow eyeball. This one was kind of gross - but still fun! My favorite part of that dissection was seeing how thick the eyeball lens really is. The third, and last, thing we dissected was a sheep brain. It was like the heart, in which it was much less revolting that I thought it would be. I have learned so many things this semester that I never thought I would learn. I learned how to measure vital signs, how to identify what kind of food poisoning someone has, what the percentage is for a child of someone with Huntington’s disease, and so much more. I don’t think that I will end up in a biomedical science career, but who knows what the future will bring?
Overall, this class exceeded my expectations. We did so many fun and educational activities. This class was something to look forward to at the end of the

Planning- In terms of planning, I would say that my skills were great. I am a very organized person; therefore, I was not struggling for anything that I needed. I had all of my materials prepped and ready to go the night before my lesson. I had extras of everything used in the lesson in case of emergencies (like the previously mentioned paint spill). I thought my lesson plan was comprehensive and straight forward. One thing that I was particularly proud of was that I had a lot of extra materials. This was especially convenient because many of the children wanted to do my activity over and over, so it was helpful that I did. Overall, I think planning would be one…

Many people do not know what engineering is but they encounter it everyday. Engineering has a wide-ranging field from electronics to medicines, to consumer goods. Biomedical engineering, which I hope to study in college, deals specifically with medical technologies and products. This career is my main focus because I can help many people without having to consult with each and every one. Even though I know I will be working in a laboratory, I will always have the opportunity to learn more and make discoveries in medicine. (U.S Bureau)…

For me, the best thing about this third lesson was the interesting content. There was so much to talk about and do. The experiments were fun to watch and brought an amazing amount of student thinking into the lesson. My group was a pleasure to work with. We had great communication before SCMT day and we worked as a team to make sure we each had what we needed as we did our lesson. Too bad we don’t get to have three willing science assistants at our disposal when we are teaching science for real! I felt that my group members were able to predict the moves the kids might make based off our lesson plan. This a change from our first SCMT lesson. I can see how our SCMT lesson experiences have connected us with how students and teachers interact with in the five E lesson format. Our experience and knowledge from class helped us to…

    Im Sorry Research Paper

I’m sorry. Two simple words… why do we humans believe that by saying these two words, they would somehow take back all offenses and heal all the wounds which you have created? How can you say regretful remarks, make selfish decisions, and expect to fix the whole ordeal by saying these two little words? We have been taught since a young age, to assume that saying I’m sorry will heal all the pain we caused. My concern, however, is not the words themselves but, the way they are delivered in the most detached and meaningless way possible, only in hopes of suppressing the situation. The method to correctly apologize, however, is fairly simple. First, you must own the mistake you have made; secondly, you must step in the other’s shoe in order to…

The human body is fascinating. It is astounding the way in which we are beginning to understand how our own complex infrastructure works, including the composition and function of each individual cell and molecule. The variety of specialities within Biomedical Sciences, such as genetics and neuroscience, is one of the main reasons I chose this degree. The human body is an intelligent structure, it is intruiging the ways in which it can change and be affected. Through study I will gain a solid understanding of the human anatomy.…

I have always had a passion for the STEM field. Ever since I was a child I have been exposed to biomedical engineering from a young age, have always loved my science and classes, and have had experiences that have introduced me to different fields of STEM. So far I have taken ten STEM classes in Highschool. and my favorite was Biology. I remember loving every second of every lab we did and excelled in them. I have taken 4 lab based courses Pre-AP Biology, Pre-AP chemistry, AP physics and AP Chemistry. Out of all the labs in all the classes, my favorite was the pig section lab. This experience was a very poignant moment for me and I could see myself doing something of that nature as a career. From that moment on I knew that STEM was the right…

There are a few things I have learned this semester in this class. I feel like the most things I have learned came from health class as we did not have a proper class to do units too in depth. I learned a lot about different drugs and their different names, short term effects, long term effects and legal status. We also learned about steroids and the different kinds of steroids. We also learned about a lot of different side effects and different dangers of steroids. I also learned about how to achieve success without steroids. I also learned how to play badminton a lot better by placing the birdy away from the opponent on every hit and not hitting it in the middle. In the weight room I was able to apply what I learned from last year and from outside of school to be efficient in the weight room and finish lots of sets in a period of time.…

Acid rain is a rain or any other form of precipitation like rain, fog, snow, or hail that contains harmful substances higher than normal amounts of such as nitrogen and sulfur oxides, that is unusually acidic, meaning that it possesses elevated levels of hydrogen ions (low pH). Acid rain is also called acid deposition because this term includes other forms of acidic precipitation such as snow. The acid deposition is occurs in two way which is wet deposition and dry deposition. It can have harmful effects on plants, aquatic animals, and infrastructure. Acid rain is caused by emissions of sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxide, which react in the atmosphere with water, oxygen, and other chemicals to form various acidic compounds. The precursors, or chemical forerunners, of acid rain formation result from both natural sources, such as volcanoes and decaying vegetation, and man-made sources, primarily emissions of sulfur dioxide (SO2) and nitrogen oxides (NOx) resulting from fossil fuel combustion. However, major human sources do come from the industry, transportation, and a variety of power plants. When sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides are released from power plants and other sources, prevailing winds blow these compounds, sometimes over hundreds of miles. The acid rain causes a drastic increase of the acidity of the precipitation and does also harm plants, humans, and buildings.…

In the beginning of the year when joining this class I thought it would just a class on designing things. I learned and understand as the course goes on that this class helps me to interact with other classmates. Creating more confidents in me, improving my writing skills, and my social skills is what I am also learning from this class. The bridge project I liked the most because it had me realized how important a group project is and how one person makes a difference in a group. Writing about my personal goals and reflective essay, made me see how much I have improved in my writing and learning. Most of all this class helped me learn more about the Ethics, Diversity, Critical, and Communication that we will need in life.…
