It’s no use
Mother dear, I can’t finish my weaving You may blame Aphrodite soft as she is she has almost killed me with love for that boy The poem’s topic is about love. To the best of my knowledge and how I read the poem, I am understanding that she is telling her mom she can no longer work or go on since love had ruined her when she fell in love with a boy. blames it on Aphrodite who is the Queen of love, beauty, passion and procreation. To some, love is dangerous because it changes how you were before. Love can change how you think, how you act, and how you look at things. Love is strong and powerful to where you can become a whole new person and have a new personality. Though the time periods are different, love remains the same throughout history. It all depends on what type of love and who is loving who or what. Love is a universal language. It can be seen anywhere and anyone can experience love. It’s something that can give you happiness as well you give you pain. Ancient Greece was a time of art, war, culture, love, and etc.
The famous queen of love was Aphrodite and she was very capable of letting people love and being in love herself. An era where women and men were not equal in society. Men made the money, men ruled, and men were in charge. Women stayed home to prepare meals for their husband, clean, and take care of the kids. Women were looked down on and even in relationships it was a little different back then. Even with that in society, women were still strong and made a huge impact on how their men made decisions. In today’s society we still have men who look down on women, people who feel that they are more superior to their significant other. Those who go to work with their significant other staying home to cook and clean. There are many similarities and also many improvements in today’s society with how people are being treated as a …show more content…
whole. The poem grabbed my attention because it didn’t talk too much about this or that.
It was rather short and straight to the point, also love is a very popular topic. It was also one of the poems that I could connect more with. When reading this poem, I had many thoughts run through my mind. With how the people around me experience love and with how I experienced love. To me, there are three different types of love. The love and support from family, the love and admiration you can receive from others, and the love you share with your partner. Each love brings happiness. But, each love brings another kind of emotion as well. Every person deserves to be loved by their family. Family love gives off strength, encouragement, empowerment, and motivation to work hard and to push forward. My family may not always express our love with the simple words of “I love you”, but the actions and the small things they say motivate me to become a better person and to keep working harder. For those who I am not close with who show me love and admiration, it makes me happy knowing that somewhere out there, there is someone who appreciates me for who I am and what I do. Lastly for love with a significant other, this is a love where it hurts and feels the best for most people. People feel happiness, excitement, joy, sadness, pain, burden, and so much more with this type of love. A feeling of betrayal and pain, like in the poem, “She has almost, killed me with, love for that boy”. For myself, love
with a significant other is something I would like to treasure other than my love for my family. A partner can cheat on you, hurt you, lie to you, and there’s always room to start over to look past the situation even if it occurs more than once. Love with a boy is something that, “almost kills” me all the time. It’s a feeling of happiness mixed with being worried, scared, nervous, sadness, and so many emotions at one time. People say love is amazing and it is, but the way I feel love is burdensome to myself. This poem may have a different meaning to it. It may not be how I saw the poem, but poems are meant to reach out to people and have people enjoy reading them and making connections with them as well.
