Charlotte Perkins Gilman’s, “The Yellow Wallpaper” is uniquely crafted on the narrator’s point of view that is based on the first person. The author has chosen this style to illustrate the various aspects in the book. Her explanations give the story a truly intrinsic mood and tone. From the onset, the reader is systematically led into a woman’s descent into madness. It further gives this story an autobiographical touch that is founded on its reliance and successful use of the first-person narration. In this regard, the essay examines the use of the first person point of view and its effectiveness in presenting thematic concerns as established in the book. “The Yellow Wallpaper “recognizes interesting aspects whose presentation would not have been excellent without the first-person narration.

His wife’s narration indicates that despite his genuine love for his wife, he does not have a strong idea on how to solve the situation at hand. She says that he is a very caring and loving husband and that, “he does not let her stir without special direction” (Delbanco and Cheuse 368). John recognizes his wife’s compromised mental state although he does not seem to understand how severe this is. Despite his medical profession, he does not have an idea on how to treat this condition. On the contrary, John is persistent on the “country air to restore her senses” (Delbanco and Cheuse 365).
