Many things happened in the 1990s, for example the beginning of new economy, the start of the Internet age, and several more important events. But one of the things that most stood out those years was the misconduct of the police also known as police brutality. Police brutality is the use of excessive or sometimes even unnecessary force by police when it comes to dealing with civilians. Attorney Janer Reno even said in a conference he had in the year 1995, that there was a big problem with excessive force coming from the police, but it still much had to be done about that problem. We have the case of Rodney King in 1992 as an example of police brutality. “The beating of Rodney King by Los Angeles police officers resulted in outrage and raised tensions between the police and the community” (4). Rodney was stopped like anyone else for a traffic violation. The police used excessive force on him by striking him over 50 times using nightsticks, after he resisted police
