The local police departments along with the Erie County Sherriff’s are soon too integrated into one force. This paper will talk about three problems that will arise from this integration and then three solutions for each one of these problems. With that there will be drastic changes, from rank structure, to pay grades, to how they will operate as one force rather than different precincts. This means that they have to find a way of going about this drastic change. They live in Erie County were there are New York State Police, Eire County Sherriff’s, and then all the individual town, village, and city police departments. The solution will be that they will only have one Chief of Police, but currently have a few dozen. The way they will come up with the Chief is the person with the best service record and who has the highest level of seniority will be the Chief of Police, who will be at Headquarters in Buffalo, NY. Then they will have three Deputy Chiefs. These three will be formed by the next three Chiefs with the best service record and seniority. They will be broke down into three section of Erie County. One Chief will be stationed in Amherst, NY, another in Buffalo, NY, and then the third and final Chief in Hamburg, NY. Each one of these Deputy Chiefs will have one Police Commander and one Police Captain under them. They will decide which of the police captains will take the spots. Any extra chiefs can move down to Lieutenant or they will give them their pensions and they will take an early retirement with a small bonus for their grievances. All from there on down all personnel will take a demotion a majority will be demoted to Police officer. Promotions will be based on Seniority and their service record. There will be maximum overtime of three hours a week for each officer. Each police officer will work eight hours every day. There will only be a quarter of the officers on the night shift compared to the day shift. Without overtime this means that it is easy to keep a low budget and save money which means that more officers will be employed with less cost than having fewer officers who are on overtime. Each officers pay will reflect his or her rank in the force. All police officers will be paid the same, all Sergeants will be paid the same, same with all Lieutenants, and so on. This is so we have less turmoil within our force because there will be no issues with pay individuals
