PCOS is the short form of polycystic ovarian syndrome which is quite common among teenagers and the young women. Formation of a large number of cysts (cluster of pearl-sized cysts filled with fluid contain immature eggs) in the ovaries (a part of women reproductive system) is so called PCOS. In the recent survey it has been found that out of 1 in 10 women is found with PCOS. It is a hormonal disorder that causes uncountable problems. The exact cause of PCOS is unknown. However, medically the cause is believed to be genetical and hormonal problems.

How is PCOS diagnosed?
There is no definitive test to detect PCOS. The Gynecologist will discuss with the patient about the family history, medical history, and menstrual cycles.
• A Pelvic examination will be done clinically where the physician manually inspects the reproductive organ for any signs of growth or abnormalities.
• Blood test is advised to check the hormone levels.
• Thyroid function Test (TFT)
• Fasting blood sugar
• Lipid Profile
• Ultrasound / Vaginal ultrasound shows the real appearance of ovaries, endometrium
• Pelvic laparoscopy is done to check any growth in the ovaries. If the growth is seen, a tissue sample is collected for biopsy to rule out their suspicion.
Treatment for PCOS:
There is no cure for PCOS. Only palliative treatments are advised by the doctors to suppress the complications and
