We found this case study to be very unique and interesting seeing as how they went from being a small research center to a well-known and visited tourist destination. We believe that Posada Amazonas is actually in a good position because the challenges are not major business threatening problems. In this paper we will answer the questions that Kurt Holle asked himself.
The first question is what should he do concerning the community. This is his biggest challenge and possibly the most threatening because the community runs the operation but at the same time they seem very unreliable and there is a small “pool” to choose from. We think it is obvious that he needs to maintain the same way the business runs with the community because it is the a big reason why tourists choose them as a destination, therefore they see more business for it. Also on the positive side he is keeping the young in the area and providing steady reliable jobs to the people. He is also supplying jobs to the farmers and natural resource suppliers.
The bigger question is what should his role be in its internal conflict, and we think that he should do what he is doing, which is having the management committee dealing with the employees. This way he has a professional team that will deal with the employees who steal, are drunk, are don’t show up to work. This is smart because he does not seem like the bad guy to the community. We also believe that he should step in as a role model or father figure to the employees and motivate or influence them into preforming better at work. If he were to talk to them individually and tell them that this is one of the best working opportunities that they might get, and how much they mean to the business then maybe the employees will feel a bigger responsibility at work.
For the question of whether the partnership is really convenient for the community or not, we
