Poverty In Sub Saharan Africa

Poverty is one of the main issues the entire world has to deal with. It is the state in which people do not earn enough money to support life essentials, such as food, water, and shelter. For example, for sub-Saharan Africa, poverty is the reality for almost half of the population. Africa is the poorest continent on earth by a long shot. Except for three, 28 of the poorest countries in the world are in Africa. The incidence of poverty in Sub-Saharan Africa is increasing faster than the population. Overall, the pace of poverty reduction in most of Africa has slowed since the 1970s. Consequently, over 40% of people living in sub-Saharan Africa live in absolute poverty. Poverty in Africa is caused by many social, political and economic issues, which bring terrible consequences to the African population.

There are many reasons why Africa is a poor country, despite the fact that it has the most precious natural resources. One of the main causes is
African leaders are self-aggrandizers and self-perpetuators who subvert and debauch every key institution of government to serve their needs and not that of their people. As a result, this creates an imbalance in society and leads to more poverty because influential and powerful individuals end up oppressing the poor. On the other hand, when a household is affected by diseases as prevalent in Africa as malaria, HIV/AIDS, and TB, the little resources are spent on treating the sick. In a worst-case scenario where the breadwinner dies, those who are left behind have no resources to support themselves, thus leading a poor lifestyle. And the situation is worsened by poor health facilities. Also, the lack of infrastructure in Africa results in the inability to develop, provide modern technology, provide essential services and access, mistrust of governments, leading to revolutions that will paralyze the government system and more rivalry with few
