The related text that I have chosen to analyse is a poem written by Maya Angelou which is called still i rise. It was published in 1978 during the racist times in America against African Americans. Still I rise is an inspirational poem which shows how Maya Angelou has endured the pain of racism and was still able to fight and stand her own ground she shows great strength and power. This inspirational poem explores the concept of being powerful and being powerless at the same time.
Power is something that can be gained and it can also be lost thus someone can become powerful and also become powerless. Maya Angelo uses repetition in this inspirational poem. She says "I rise, I rise, I rise" three times. This technique explains to us that she is persistent and will not give up and keep rising no matter what pain she has to endure. This relates to power in the individual as she is showing persistency and is not willing to give up. Maya Angelou shows that she is a very powerful being.
Power is something that can be gained and it can also be lost thus someone can become powerful and also become powerless. Maya also uses a metaphor in the last paragraph which sounds like a warning. "I'm a black ocean, leaping and wide, welling and swelling I bear the tide leaving behind nights of terror and fear, I rise"
