Here we get more context of why the dentist is using his power on the mayor this way the mayor has either killed or involved with the killing of the twenty men that the dentist cared about. The mayor feels so much pain to the point he starts crying and feeling his bones break in his mouth it says this on page 5 as well “The Mayor felt the crunch of bones in his jaw and his eyes filled with tears he was trembling” (Marquez).
