that occurs throughout our world. The words we use are often misunderstood by other people and this leads often leads to unnecessary hostility. Mohammed Qahtani, the 2015 World Champion of Public Speaking said, “A simple choice of word can make the difference between someone accepting or denying your message,”. He proceeds and states, “You can have a very beautiful thing to say, but say it in the wrong words and it’s gone.” This demonstrates how the use of words can be interpreted many different ways and how that often gets our humanity into alarming amounts of trouble.Furthermore, words significantly contribute to the use of propaganda and political oppression over a group of people, something we have studied very attentively throughout the year. We read about many examples of how the manipulation of words and language were used to gain power over a body of people, in both 1984 and Animal Farm.
In contrary, words also bring people together, creating a sense of community and initiating new, innovative ideas along with the pursuit for better understanding of the world we live in today. Malala Yousafzai, a Pakistani activist for female education stated, “One book, one pen, one child, and one teacher can change the world.” This gives a more inspiring outlook on how we can use the power of words to influence one another and change our world for the better. In conclusion, this ambivalence nature of words is perfectly represented in a quote said by Yehuda Berg, he states, “Words are singularly the most powerful force available to humanity. We can choose to use this force constructively with words of encouragement, or destructively using words of despair. Words have energy and power with the ability to help, to heal, to hinder, to hurt, to harm, to humiliate and to humble.” Words are undoubtedly the most influential tool used by mankind. They contain immeasurable significance throughout the world we live in. Words are power.
