Powerplay involves a conflict of interests, which brings the wielder of power has control and influence, yet places them in a vulnerable position from people desiring it thus resulting in a conflict to obtain power. This can be seen in the following texts: the play Antony and Cleopatra', the film Star Wars - A New Hope' and the novel "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone".
An aspect explored in the three texts is how power is gained, and one way of achieving that is through military power and in Antony and Cleopatra Octavius …show more content…
Antony was a great military leader but his infatuation with Cleopatra has caused him to choose lust over duty, his power decreased. Antony's downfall is complete when he fights with Caesar at sea and Cleopatra ships flees from the battle costing Antony victory, which he angrily responds "O thy vile lady! She has robbed me of my sword" where with the use of symbolism, the occurring symbol of Cleopatra's ship fleeing away show the inconstancy of Cleopatra's character, yet he still lusts for her after which emphasises that Cleopatra is responsible for Antony's loss of power. This is quite a contrast to Harry Potter and Star Wars where the main characters are helped in their quest to obtain power, which points out that the relationships of the characters, can make character's power levels fall as seen with Antony's continual plummet to
