Practicum Reflection Paper
After reading several of my students posting for this week, I can see the similarities in ever practicum settings. Even though, we all complete our practicum at different settings, the overall role and services were the same. As a social worker our goals are to be that helping agent that connect people to different services. At Adult Protection Services, case workers are advocate, facilitators, case managers, brokers, and networkers. Personally speaking to be a successfully social worker, we have to be all those professional skills and roles. Our job consist of advocating on behalf of our clients, assisting with services, linking clients outside resources and services, and fighting the state and federal government to ensure these vulnerable people continue to have their rights. …show more content…
Forming and maintain professional relationships are necessary for our job. During this week of practicum, I was able to meet some services in the community, and I was able to network with them. My field instructor express the importance of building relationships with hospitals and nursing homes. At Adult Protective Services on call caseworkers sometimes have to place client rather quickly, and that is when the hospitals and nursing homes will give a helping hand. On the other hand nursing homes or hospital will request our services when clients appeared to be abused, neglected or exploited. Forming and establishing good working relationships can allow for better service of clients. Having a bad reputation can also hurt the case workers, because outside agency do not want to work them. In its strive for expertise social workers learned a long time ago that practicing social work is more than just having a good heart and good intentions. “According to it requires having a certain expertise, this expertise arises from the base of authority that social works claim, a base of authority that makes the social worker uniquely qualified and most able to attend to the client’s

The first competency that is discussed is: identifying as a professional social worker and conducting oneself accordingly. With this comes a heavy responsibility, not only the way a practitioner appears, how they dress or speak but also the way in which they conduct themselves fall into this category. Dressing appropriately to the agency that have enlisted the workers services, being aware of various bias or preconceived notions (often misconceptions) about a particular person or group and having the capacity to put these feelings and thoughts aside to help it crucial. Reflecting back on this course, my impression on the field of Social Work embraces that this fields rests far more diverse and incriminated into society than I previously thought; “Not only do they help the individuals cope with the situation at hand, they advocate for them and seek out valuable resources and other means of support for the affected person(s)” (XXX). Prior to this course, I detained a misconception that social workers predominantly counseled individuals, when in reality, social workers integrate collaboration, advocacy, investigating, counseling, planning, monitoring, and organizing into their occupational responsibilities. Assisting in a vast array of societal facets, social workers rely on theories and frameworks to pilot…

The first reflection paper is going to be on Prayer and Miracles. The important thing is that you want to pray. You yearn to spend time with God in prayer every day. Each individual has to find their prayer time. Life is full and in our daily frenzied life, one must set aside time to be with God. The hurried life style is so apparent in our culture today; everyone is in a hurry and want’s the drive thru prayer request. A miracle is an event attributed to divine intervention. Alternatively, it may be an event attributed to a miracle worker, saint, or religious leader. A miracle is sometimes thought of as a perceptible interruption of the laws of nature. Some suggest that God may work with the laws of nature to perform what people see as miracles. Theologians say that, with divine providence, God regularly works through created nature yet is free to work without, above, or against it as well. In casual usage, miracle is seen as any event that is statistically unlikely, but beneficial, such as surviving a natural disaster, or simply a wonderful occurrence, regardless of likelihood, such as a birth. Other miracles might be: survival of a terminal illness, escaping a life threatening situation or beating the odds. Some coincidences may be seen as miracles, for instance, “ God I need a parking space”, and then there is a parking space…then the driver says “Oh God Thank You anyways, “ I found one on my own”. Needless to say God provide in this coincidence.…

There are a lot of books that have been written over what the different spiritual gifts are and how they are supposed to be used. There are quite a few verses in the New Testament that covers the spiritual gifts and how we are to use them. In 1 Corinthians 12:4-8 we are told, “Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the sane God who empowers them all in everyone. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom and to another the utterance of knowledge according to the same spirit.” The Bible…

Throughout the years we dream of the future. We dream of career and setting goals to become someone. I think of my future every day and ways to make it better. It’s important to know what I want in my life, otherwise I won’t be happy. I am still figuring out who I am and what exactly do I want to dedicate my life to. But my biggest goal in life is to be happy with whatever I’ll be doing. Enjoy life and just simply reach my dreams. I want to get a career, I want to travel the world, I want to explore and understand myself, I want to educate myself as much as possible and eventually I want a family of course. Right now I’m still growing and exploring life, making mistakes and taking chances. I’m trying to find myself in the right place, where I belong. For one thing I am sure of is that I want to be independent. That is why I want to get an education so I could have everything I want. I want to go to college and feel that I am progressing and growing as a human. I try different fields of education to see what will interest me the most. I have good math skills and I do a lot of thinking. I think all the time. I also like drawing, and I draw since I was little. I like doing makeup for others and I dreamed of becoming a fashion designer before. And since all of those things are so different, I’m not sure which way I want to go in life. As an option I’m thinking to go into business field or management because I believe there are many opportunities in this field. I will always find the job if I need to. But I wouldn’t give up other things that I like to do. While going to college and deciding who I want to become as a specialist, I am planning to go to the beauty school also. I want to take courses for makeup artistry. I always do makeup for all of my friends. And I think it would be great to have a hobby that brings me money. So while I’ll be studying at college I would be working somewhere by doing makeup for others so it benefits me in both ways. After two years…
