Prebles Book Review

In the first part of the book Prebles’ “Art forms” by Patrick Frank is basically about the way you’re able to view the different types of art. Also about how when you look at a certain art piece you’re able to notice the structure of the art. In the first chapter of part one “The Nature of Art and Creativity” it’s talking about how we don’t always have to showing actions or feelings in a physical way. Many artist show there way of emotions and actions through paintings, theater plays, etc. They also explain the different types of art there is such as music, dance, theater and literature. In the book they also explain what creativity is and how it connects to different forms of art. Creativity is a person using their imagination to create a
certain object. Without creativity there wouldn’t be any type of art in this world. They move on to explaining about how art is able to meet our needs. Not our basic needs but the deeper “ones the define you as a person”. There are various types of art such as art for delight, art as commentary, art in worship and ritual, art for commemoration, art for persuasion and art for self-expression. All these various types of art each have a different meaning and purpose. Just like there’s the nature of art and all the purpose of arts with the functions there is also the visual elements which also make up a part of art. The visual elements are the form in which you see the art. The art can come in 2 dimension which is just a flat picture with limited details. It can also be created in a 3 dimension which gives you much more details and it makes you feel like you are really there in the picture. Those are the topics that were mention in part one of the book “Art forms”.
