The Environmental Protection Agency was created in order to protect human health and the environment by writing and enforcing regulations based on laws passed by Congress.
Due to its allegiance with Congress, the EPA is referred to as a regulatory agency. The EPA's responsibilities include environmental licensing; enforcement of environmental law; environmental planning; education and guidance; monitoring, analyzing, and reporting on the environment; regulating greenhouse gas emissions; environmental research development; strategic environmental assessment; waste management; and radiological protection. Additionally, the Environmental Protection Agency offers products a stamp of approval, deeming them as the "safer choices" in comparison to other products. In order to communicate their message to the public, the agency actively posts informative cartoons and informative videos on their YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, and Google+ pages, as well as their primary
website.
President Richard Nixon recognized the need for an agency dedicated to the protection of the environment to benefit both human health and the sustainability of our planet. He realized that companies will not manage their emissions responsibly without enforced regulations. These regulations save lives by fighting air pollution, particularly by protecting vulnerable segments of society such as the children, elderly, and poor. Furthermore, the Environmental Protection Agency creates a large array of employment opportunities for the public.
