Pressure ulcers are an important concern for the community in the health care setting that cause serious problems to patients, family members, and to the facility that treats the patient. The aim of this essay is to present the role of the community nurse in preventing pressure ulcers in patients with risk factors. Methods used is the research and review of articles and publications discussing the responsibilities and role of the community nurse. Results of the analysis of published papers revealed the role of nurses in prevention, screening, and management. All these factors are crucial to prevent medical consequences and excessive expenses involved.

This area has high incident of older adults that are often placed in a nursing home or hospital because of exacerbation of medical conditions. Nurses and medical personnel have direct access to this population in need because usually they are admitted frequently to the hospital as well as nursing homes. A high percentage of this population are hispanic and are over 65 years old with multiple medical conditions.
