Reading and Writing Strategies: In her portfolio, Diana did average on incorporating the reading and writing strategies. The conclusion wasn’t as strong as it should’ve been, but she had good body paragraph structure. The hook doesn’t really grab your attention as it should, and the thesis should be stronger and more brief. For example, the first sentence of the essay, which is commonly referred to as the hook, is too long and could potentially cause the readers to lose interest. Diana also did good using reading and writing strategies in her midterm portfolio. The topic sentences of each body paragraph are strong and mostly explain what each paragraph is going to be about which is very important. Overall, there were both positives and negatives with Diana’s use of Reading and Writing Strategies.
Reflection: Diana’s reflection letter is good, because she does all that is asked to do for every strategy. While there are some grammatical errors and some sentences are a little confusing, she explains each writing and reading strategy perfectly. The objective is to name, define, and apply each of the strategies and she does that. When she explains a reading or writing strategy, she gives the right definition and explains how to apply it or uses past experiences of how she has used this
It is really noticeable that her tone throughout the portfolio is to inform and has drive. For example, when she explains how The Little Mermaid is following the same bad stereotype that is in almost every Disney movie, her tone is firm and makes the reader know that she has a lot of knowledge about this issue. To me, it looks like she follows most of the requirements needed for this genre. In her reflection letter, she meets all three objectives, and in her textual analysis essay, she also does what is asked of her.
