This option is not available to every parolee. Certain criteria requirements have to be met. A few factors considered is the distance of the assigned halfway house and the parolee’s home address and home situations like young children or a very ill family member who needs caring for. Prior to be being approved, a member of the halfway house must make a mandatory check of the house. A house phone-line must be in working status and not contain any customized features such as call waiting, forward calling or three way calling. An original phone bill is required in proving these requirements. After being approved, the parolee will then have an electronic ankle bracelet put on as well as a phone monitor connected to the phone that keeps a count of all movement of the bracelet. The parolee must be pre-approved to leave the house and must a halfway staff member a detailed agenda down to the minute on a weekly basis. The parolee has required times that they need to call the halfway house to check in from their house phone. Usually three to four times a week, a halfway house staff member will appear at the residence at odd hours in the middle of the night to request the parolee’s signature on a check-in
