government help them. Many high-poverty cities are typically in the South or West, which has suburbs outlying the areas. Poverty rates rise quickly in suburbs than in urban areas. A nonprofit organization called Brookings Institution reported that “low-incomes populations in suburbs surrounding the country’s largest metropolitan areas grew 66 percent from 2000 to 2013, while urban cores grew 30 percent.” (Zile). Many agricultural jobs tend to pay less than medical, tech, and finance. Many of the low-wage and low-skill workers live in high-poverty suburban neighborhood. Many people in the modern society experience poverty and it doesn’t shine a light onto the topic. In Baltimore, many people face poor health from poverty. Senator Bernie Sanders stated that “15 Baltimore neighborhoods have lower life expectancies than North Korea.” (Sanders), that shows alone how forgettable poverty can be and how tragic it effects the life of people. Many teenagers face worst outlooks on economics and health conditions than many others. Senator Sanders suggested many ways into helping the United states get out of poverty, by raising the minimum wage. Senator Sanders said “Children in Baltimore have the least chance of escaping poverty of any big city in America” (Sanders), that means that poverty is so bad in America that even children are being affected by it. Not many people know how bad poverty can get and it toll it’s going to take. Families in poverty sometimes struggle to get food for their love ones and pay expenses that are a need to survive.
Some people and families in poverty have to save up in order to pay the next month’s rent, food, and have decent clothing for their own good, while many people who take things for granted are perfectly fine. In Sarah Jae Blake’s article, I never knew what it was like to be poor…, she talks about a friend that is going through poverty and how her friend had to raise up 100 dollars in order to pay the landlord for her family’s rent. She says that “People never seem to care about the poor unless they actually know someone who is poor.” (Blake), stating that people just keep a blind eye to the poor until they see it firsthand themselves. She shows how hard it is for the family to negotiate with the landlord, but she showed no care for this poor family. Being said that people are greedy for money instead of helping the one in need. More than 45 million people in the United States was estimated total in 2014 and continues to grow as the years go on. Some political parties take a small toe dip into the cold parts of poverty and quickly ignore the harsh truth about
it. Poverty is like a disease that can be cured with the help of many people joining forces to fight against it. It hits many people in America, they try to fend to see another day. People need help escaping it as many people had been in it for years. In order, to beat poverty is very difficult as it can also effect many other things in America, but it can help with the economical part of the U.S. As poverty continues to grow, the more that it gets the cold shoulder from many people until the aftermath of it comes and they will realize how bad it really is.
