Process Essay- Elite Athletes
Many wonder how athletes arrive at the professional level. There is a process that soccer players must undergo to perform the way that they do; whether it be at practice or in a game. These athletes have to be physically and mentally ready to become the elite soccer player. These steps can help increase your chance of becoming the soccer player of your dreams, but it all comes from how far one is willing to go and the mentality one possesses. First, one must learn the fundamentals of the game, such as, controlling the ball, dribbling, knowing the positions and their responsibilities, the equipment needed, and rules and regulations. Also, while learning about the positions you can decide which role you would fit best or is more appealing to you. Always keep in mind that every position is a big part of being a team on and off the field. There might be eleven players on the field but you are part of those eleven and were chosen to play on that field. One must have the mentality to strive and sacrifice what is needed to get to that professional level. Soon after learning the fundamentals of the game and basic training begins, the next step is to play at the competitive level which will determine if one is mentally and physically ready for what is yet to come of the game. This is where the player will be compared among others who either have the mentality of competing at the next level or have no intention of going any where with the soccer. This stage will help determine where you stand physically and mentally. Along with skill there are other qualities an athlete should have such as, self-motivation, perseverance, optimism, determination, and passion. Soccer players must be able to balance soccer and school or anything else they might be involved in. The game, the sport, requires many sacrifices and knowledge. A player must be fit, skilled, smart on the field, and always ready. College level is right around the corner and if this is what you really want, follow through with it all the way. Finally, preparing through the fundamentals of soccer and playing competitively, the college level is introduced. College level soccer focuses a lot more on the mental aspect of soccer, if you are mentally fit to play a 90 minute game or if you can get through the last set of sprints during practice. The mindset of a player will determine how far they are willing to go to get to where they have only dreamed of being. Being mentally fit also means you have to be able to balance school work along with practices and games. Understand that here you are having the mindset that you will make it to the big leagues and if you do not, you still have your college degree to fall back on. All things considered, the decision is up to you. People will question how is it that athletes arrive at the professional level and now you can show them what it takes and how you got there. This can guide you through the process but only you can accomplish the task of getting there. Soccer is a mental and physical game, but it is all in the mindset that one holds. If being a soccer player at the professional is what you strive for, then follow through with it with all of you not just some part of you.

Soccer players are extremely complete athletes; they must be able to run for 6 miles without stopping, jogging and sprinting. Soccer players must start training at a young age because how grueling it is to get in shape for it. They must have really strong core, legs, and a strong heart. Core muscles refer to obliques, abs, back, and chest. Soccer players cannot be out of shape in anyway in order to play. These muscles take years to make as strong as they need to be in order to be a great soccer player. In soccer a strong shot doesn’t just come from having those famously strong leg muscles like Beckham, but it comes from the twist from the core that creates the torque needed to have a powerful shot. The necessity of a strong core in soccer is often under rated, as well as the overall strength and physicality involved in soccer. The legs are famously strong because they tend to be large and hard to miss. However, the shoulders and core must be strong in order to push off other players while running at top speed and dribbling a soccer ball. The obviously strong body part of soccer players are their legs. Soccer players tend to be able to out lift football players in all exercises involving legs. When analysts on ESPN talk about soccer even the guys usually have something to say about the legs because of how defined and largely muscular they are. When soccer players are able to kick soccer ball…

Now that you have an idea of the rules of professional soccer, I will continue to explain the popularity and passion of the game. Soccer is very widely played all over the world. The most prestigious international soccer competition is that of the world cup, held every four years, it lasts about a month, the most recent one being held in South Africa world cup 2010. With more than a billion viewers a day and tuned in to approximately 30 billion times, it is more popular than the Super Bowl, the World Series, the Masters, and the NBA finals. One reason many researchers believe it is so popular, especially in third world countries is because of the lack of things needed in order to play. All you need is a goal and a ball. Soccer is so much a part of so many people’s everyday lives.…

As the young and naive children we were, adults always told us to never give up on our dreams. This statement usually applied to the impractical dreams of becoming president of the United States, transforming into a superhero, or playing alongside professional athletes. These were all big ideas and aspirations that fueled our carefree childhoods, and were appropriate practice for shaping the paths to our true passions we discover later on in our lives; particularly in high school. High school is where teenagers are able experiment and begin to understand themselves as individuals, rather than what everybody else likes to do. Of course there are exceptions to those who are the “followers” rather than the “leaders”, but I’d like to claim I had…

Soccer isn’t like other sports where you can catch a ball, throw a ball, or hold a stick in your hand to hit the ball. You need a lot more skills to play soccer; you need to run constantly, have great foot skills along with knowing how to use the rest of your body, and also be able to see what’s going to happen before it does to make plays. On average a soccer player runs about seven miles per game.…

Have you ever heard the saying, “have you ever wanted something so much it hurt”? Well, when I say it. I’m talking about literally hurting. Your legs are so sore, it feels like you can’t take another stride, your so out of breath from chasing the ball around, and your so exhausted from last nights practice, your bed seems to be the most attractive thing to you right now. Three hour practices of straight running, push ups, and sit ups has its pros and cons. Even at times when you feel like you need a break, pushing yourself through it is what makes you a better player. I choose to inform you on soccer because I’ve played my whole life, from 5 years old until my senior year in high school, and its something I know about. The three main points in my opinion that are most important when it comes to playing soccer are teamwork, sportsmanship, and dedication.…

In soccer there are many important skills that you need to be successful in soccer. One of the most important skills you need is the ability to dribble the ball. This skill is one off the most important because if you don't have dribbling skills you can't take the ball down the field. Without being able to bring the ball down the field you can't score therefore you can't win. Another very important skill is having good touch. Having good touch means being able to pass the ball or shoot the ball when needed. You need to have good touch or else one you can't score or two you can't pass. The people that I have chosen for my leadership essay are Tiger Woods, Michael Jordan and Usain Bolt. I have chosen these athletes for one reason, they are the greatest of all time. The reason I think they are the best is because they have set many records and achieved many victories in there sports. They also do a lot of things differently than most people in their sport. Lastly they have many qualities that make them better than the rest. Their qualities are, focused, confident, dedicated, smart and lastly humble. They are all dedicated because they all set aside many hours a week to practice and to train there sport. A few examples would be, Tiger Woods practices 7-8 hours a day 3-4 days a week. Also Michael Jordan would practice/workout 10 hours a day four days a week near playoffs. This shows how truly dedicated they are because they would not have much time to do anything else or have time for themselves. The second characteristic that I thought they all had is confident. This is truly what made them great I think. They had insane amounts of confidence in themselves, in their teams and in their coaches. Why confidence is a great leadership tool is because it allows people to do exactly what they want without hesitating or thinking long about it. An example would be Tiger, if he did not have confidence in his swing or himself he would not have made many puts or sunk many shots. The same would apply to basketball because without confidence in yourself you would get demolished by other players. Also Usain Bolt needs a lot of confidence when getting into the starting block so he knows exactly what to do. I think that this made them great leaders because they could lead there team to greatness and show other people the way, it is also why they were/are great assets on the teams that they play on. My third characteristic is smart. This trait is a very open statement by saying they are smart but I think without it they would be…
