My freshman year I was voted team captain and that helped me gain leadership skills and communication skills. I earned the award of honorable mentioned in basketball. In Basketball I practiced a lot, because I knew I could get better. Throughout basketball we had several coaching changes. We had Mr. Smith then Mr. Parker and now Mrs. Smith as coaches. Having a different coach every year I feel like it was making it more difficult for the players to grow as a team and ourselves. Each coach had very different ways of teaching the game. Even though it was hard to have coaches leave we also gained different amounts of knowledge from each one, which I thought was a great privilege to get to…

Mental toughness is nowadays considered as very important and deciding factor of winning in each sport. Being mentally tough is an assumption of success. It is the greatness of the most successful athletes in the world, and the reason why they accomplished significant triumphs in their carriers. However, mental toughness is not an innate ability, but acquired one. Every single athlete can become mentally tough, but not without appropriate attention to the general mental preparation. Mental preparation is the only way how to acquire this irreplaceable ability and control that part of the match or game which actually can be controlled by the athletes themselves. Nobody plans to do badly, but sometimes things are not working like we wish they were, or sometimes our opponent is simply better. Tennis players do not want to miss the balls, soccer players do not try to kick an inaccurate passes, and sprinters do not want to mess up the start however, athletes can control their emotions and energy level, they can control the level of their concentration and focus, but especially they can control the decisions they make and the thoughts they have. As I reflect on the past eleven years of my football career, I have learned many important lessons. Besides the fundamentals of football, I have learned many lessons, including teamwork and perseverance. In my years of playing football, from little league, through middle school, and into high school, where I am playing now, teams that play as a cohesive unit always do better than the teams that don’t. Teamwork allows people to form bonds and build relationships. We learn to rely on one another for strength, courage and confidence. Every coach I’ve played under has always preached to us that teamwork is the key to being a winning team. Through my eleven years of playing, coaches have placed me all over the field in almost every position. As I am a team player, I always execute any position I play, to the best of my ability, in order to better my team.…
