Professionalism Definition Essay
Everyone has a different meaning of the word professionalism. Some people believe professionalism means dressing smart and/or appropriate for work and doing a good job. Others believe it means that you have many degrees. Merriam-Webster states professionalism as “the competence or skill expected of a professional, and it defines a professional as “a person engaged or qualified in a profession.” To me a professional has major knowledge in the field that he or she studied for. They have certifications and degrees for a specific job. To me a professional is someone who gets a job done to any extent. Anyone can trust this person with any task. Excuses will not be made by a professional. They hold themselves accountable for anything and everything they …show more content…

For example, sports players are professionals. They constantly work hard to get better and better. They dress appropriately for the sport that they are playing. They constantly work and fix mistakes so their spots are not taken from them in the following season. Another example of someone who has professionalism are athletic trainers. They dress appropriately for their jobs. Standing on the sidelines of games waiting to be needed or assigned a task. When a player is injured or hurt they run out to help the player back to the sidelines and take care of the problem or problems. Last example is a doctor. A doctor I feel has the most professionalism out of anything. A doctor is someone who can be trusted. They are giving advice and prescriptions for health.We trust them to know everything about any problems they may encounter. We trust them to prescribe correct amount of medications and to diagnose the patient with the correct problem. Imagine a doctor that has no idea what he or she is doing. They come dressed in pajamas and slippers. Dressing correctly does not always mean you are a professional and that you show
