1.0 Introduction and Problem Outline

This chapter is dedicated to present an introduction to the project and an outline of the problem which would function as the foundation of the entire project. Further, this chapter identifies the bottom of the problem and remedies the problems that lie in the core of the problem.
1. 1 Introduction

Present many organizations maintain systems to handle personal details of the members. As the only defense university in Sri Lanka, it is required to hold a computerized system for the purpose of including the details of the students. The Faculty of Defense and Strategic Studies at KDU is the faculty that keeps the records on cadets and fee-levying students. The faculty already has categorized the personal details into some sub portions. Students are enlisted in Intake wise.
Every Intake is divided into six troops. Therefore, the details of the cadets are recruited according to their troop and also squadron wise. From Intake students are separated by using the streams such as Engineering, Medicine, Low, ICT, Computer Science, Social Science, Allied Health Sciences, Management and Technical Science and Logistics. The student information such as personal details, family details, school details and sports details are included. Physical test details and the medical details are only applicable for the officer cadets. These test details are also kept by the faculty. The officer cadets, the fee-levying students and the relevant users of KDU can view the above facts clearly by accessing this system.
1.2 Problems and Limitations of the Current System
The Faculty of Defense and Strategic studies at KDU maintain existing students’ profiles manually. It arises variety of problems and creates more limitations for the faculty as well as the university.
Following are the major problems of the existing system
Data entering, updating, deleting and retrieving problems.
