nevertheless, the celibate life had only so much appeal, and these sects eventually died off.” (p. 87). Most people are not ready for the commitment of leaving behind things that they love. Big changes can scare people away, not bring them to something. A utopia should not have sacrifices. Utopias are a place where everyone is happy and living in harmony. They should not have to make sacrifices that seem impossible. The community should be easy to live. When a utopia does not acknowledge the ‘impossible’ sacrifices and still have their own high standards, people won’t meet them and will start to leave, in order to make a great society, it should be easy to live, but this will never happen due to people’s fear of big change. In some situations, utopias have outrageous acts of commitment. In the article “ 4 utopian communities that didn’t pan out” they explain “. . . commune could not provide enough food to sustain it’s members. The strict diet of grains and fruits left many in the group malnourished.” (p. 91). In many people’s opinions, diets are already hard, having to give up many foods you love but can live without. But when you get rid of a main item you need to eat daily (like protein) completely, it will leave people malnourished especially if you have them working hard every single …show more content…
Although not all utopian communities have strict diets, outrageous acts of commitment can come in different ways but all can lead to people leaving. Despite the fact that many utopian communities do not expand or cease to exist, there have been rare cases where a utopia last longer than expected. In the article “9 utopias that really exist” it shows communities that are eco-friendly and help sustain life. They say “. . . New Songdon will be located on Ichoen Bay, and will include city wide wifi integration . . . and everything will be computerized on a network.” (p. 95). Even though this shows a successful utopia there are still many things that could happen. For example, since everything is being set up to the network, what if something happens to the network? No one would be able to get a hold of people and they would be left alone not being able to do anything. Plus, they would not know how long it would be before they get the network system up and running. Throughout time utopias have been people’s fantasies. They could be the same concept or completely different. People could believe there is a heaven or not. But they all eventually fail. No matter how promising they may
