Pros And Cons Of Being A Bystander
Being a bully or a bystander is a bad choice to make in your life. The issue is getting worse every single day. Killing their self, cutting their self, depressed a lot, skipping school, taking drugs, and mostly 95% of them cry their selves to sleep at night. In my opinion because of Brain Pop, I think bystanders are worse than bullies because they just sit there and watch people get hurt. Everyone gets bullied at some point and some age!

As you can see, Brain pop teaches a lot! Students get bullied a lot. Or maybe even adults get bullied. Some people get bullied because their looks, makeup, clothing, and the way they talk. I mean it’s not their fault that they talk like that. People should be able to wear what they want, whenever they want, and how ever they want. Girls are allowed to wear makeup if they want. Even though everyone is beautiful without makeup. Let them be who they are don’t force them into who you want them to be. I know that people were born with the voice they have, they can’t change until boys hit puberty and girls hit there’s. Their voices will get deeper. They were born and raised to talk how they talk. “LEAVE THEM ALONE!” How would you like it if someone bullied you because how you look or talk?

Also, a lot of

They just sit there and watch, and most badly of all, they laugh! Or maybe even video tape it! They watch fights happen and watch people get very injured and their feelings hurt. People kill their selves because of this crap! It’s getting very old and needs to stop! Kids have cried their selves to sleep at night from watching bystanders and getting bullied and watching bullies bully people. Being or watching bullies and bystanders are worse than you thing. Being upset or torn down all the time is not a good way to live your life. You’re supposed to live your life happy! Not sad! If you go watch videos and Brain Pop, you will learn a lot about

When people stand by and watch unjust actions, everyone only prolongs injustice. In both cases of the Holocaust and bullying, prosecutors would be almost powerless without bystanders, “From the latter perspectives, the single victimizers could not inflict evil on the victims without the silent support of many who stand by” (Bar-On 7). So, even though people at the time of the Holocaust weren’t aware of the concentration camps, they still should have taken action against the Nazis. Also, many people didn’t want to be punished for supporting or protecting the Jews. People commonly put their own life first, and have no interest in risking their lives for a chance to help the Jews. This aspect, almost selfish, exists in bullying for similar reasons, though not nearly as dire, makes them just as cruel as the bully. Bystanders only reinforce what a bully wants, to feel superior to…

In the poem, “To This Day” By Shane koyczan he shows a bibliography about bullying and how it affects people. And how he got bullied as a kid. People need to understand that what they say doesn't just go one ear out the other. People can be extremely hurtful without knowing it. One thing that kids said from the poem is, “kids used to say she looks like a wrong answer that someone tried to erase but couldn’t quite get the job done”. That is just one of the many things kids said. The quote shows that even if people think i can't get worse that is usually when it does. But the problem is that people dont understand the scar that they leave when they do those…

In the documentary, a boy named Alex who had been bullied, said that “They [pushed him] so far that[he wanted] to become the bully ”(Bully). This shows that because Alex was exposed to this violent and cruel behavior so often, he almost wanted to become a bully as well. Dr. Tonja R. Nansel and colleagues at the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development did a nationwide experiment which included “15,686 students in sixth through tenth grade in public and private schools”. They found out that children who bully and that children who are bullied are “more likely to engage in violent behaviors” rather than kids who have nothing to do with bullying. All their research has proved that “Bullies” “are not born, they are made”(Brody). When you go to school in the twenty first century, you don’t only get bullied at school, but at home too. This is because as long as you have a laptop or cellphone on you, the bullies can still reach you. This type of bullying is called cyber bullying. Cyberbullying is when you use cell phones, instant messaging, e-mail, chat rooms or social networking sites to harass, threaten or intimidate someone. This shows that bullying and war are definitely not nature, but nurture.…

But everybodys different and nobodies the same. Bullying needs to stop so when you see bullying you have to change that and you need to stand up for the people or kids that get bullied. Throughout life we will find ourselves in situations where another person, possibly a stranger, needs our help. Question number 3 addresses the topic of the bystander effect. Diffusion of responsibility is essentially not feeling an urgent need to step in and help. Because you are assuming that others who are witnessing the circumstances will be the ones to jump in and help (Gilovich et al., 2013). The bystander intervention theory explains that people are less likely to help out in a situation, because they just assume that someone else will do it (Gilovich et al., 2013)). I believe that one of the obstacles that prevent people from helping is that they simply feel underqualified. Perhaps they lack the confidence to help, or they feel…

In the case of bullying, being a bystander instigates and encourages. The passive accepting of the bullying validates the act. If no one is going to act and punish the bully, then their actions must be ok. Watching gives the bully the attention that they’re seeking to gain from acting in such a manner in the first place. A helpful bystander intervenes and seeks help. Bystanders that do not act suffer several adverse consequences emotionally, as shown in the Eyes on Bullying article, ranging from anxiety to fear. Those who choose not to act when confronted with someone being bullied do so for a variety of reasons. Bullyonline talks a lot about environments fostered around bullying that helps facilitate bystanding. School and work places rely on a power structure that can easily be manipulated. Drew Carberry notes that when looking at a crowded environment, when you see that people are doing nothing, “then that becomes the norm.” Mirroring other people’s actions and norms is typical in socialization. In looking at children’s media, there’s always an episode where a bully ends up having a rough home life or some other tragedy that excuses their behavior, not holding them accountable. Lessons taught as children from “snitches get stitches” to “no one likes a tattle-tail” discourage children and really anyone from speaking out. The idea that one shouldn’t tell on other people is deeply ingrained in…

“1 in 5 people are or have been a bully or bullied’ according to “Meet the New Sheriff.” That way too many. In my opinion, when there is a bully, victim, and a bystander the bully can do the worst damage! Either if it is done physically, verbally, or even exclusion it is very harmful to the victim. Bullies can hurt people very badly. The victim is like a wounded soldier in a battle field with nowhere to go!…

As stated by Dr. Stuart Twemlow, he “…recommends targeting anti-bullying efforts at either the bullies nor the victims but a third party:bystanders who watch bullying…” He states this because schools that focus on punishing the bullies and counseling the victims report more violence compared to those who focus on educating the bystanders. That way it is beµer to get bystanders to stop the bullying problem before it even begins, as they are the ones that are on the scene at the time. One simple thing from a bystander can help so much in preventing the issue from escalating. In the end, most of us are both the bully and the victim and that bullying is less than that of a contagion, but more of an unfortunate fact of…
