Pros And Cons Of Capital Punishment
Although proponents of capital punishment think that the death penalty is cheaper than life imprisonment because defendants will not have to be cared for after the execution, it is unlikely the case if the cost is based on the appeals process (SB). Capital punishment costs tax payers more than a life sentence because there are two different trials in capital prosecutions and each death row inmate is entitled to an appeal which imposes additional costs. In “The Costliest Punishment: A Correction Administrator Contemplates the Death Penalty,” Paul W. Keve specified what is considered in capital punishment cases: (1) the sentencing in such cases must be done in trials that are separate from the trials which determine guilt or innocence; (2)

Patricia Cornwell once said “First of all, it does not deter crime, the death penalty.” So why was it made in the first place? Well, many believe that with this system we can eliminate atrocious criminals such as Timothy McVeigh, a young man who bombed Oklahoma City taking the lives of 168 people, who was later executed. This definitely helps in removing that one criminal, but what about the other thousands? If the death penalty were enforced in Canada then it not only do so but also increase our taxes, put innocent lives at risk, and in all reality have no effect on murder rates. Why would you want to let such a problematic sentencing be legalized in such a fine country like ours.…

The “death penalty” is currently utilized in thirteen states throughout the United States. There are currently 3,242 people sitting on “death row” and 43 of those are currently incarcerated here in Nevada. The death penalty is nothing new. Everyone has either read about or watched movies of people having their heads chopped off during medieval times, hangings during western times and one of the most severe executions throughout the ages is that of the crucifixions during the time of Christ. Then there were the executions that few have been aware of and are most likely one of the cruelest of all were the ones of a person convicted of patricide. They would be “tied to a sack with a cockerel, a poisonous snake and a dog, and then thrown into the river, or sea.” (Jerome, 2012).…

Some pros to the death penalty are that it protects innocent people and that the death penalty serves as a deterrent. Sentencing convicted murderers with the death penalty we are protecting inmates, guards, and people outside the prison. If we do not sentence convicted murderers with the death penalty and instead sentence them with life we are giving them the opportunity to murder while in prison. A statistic shows that by executing convicted murderers we are saving from three to eighteen innocent lives. The death penalty serves as a deterrent because without the death penalty there would be a lot more murderers. This is so because a lot of people do not commit murder in fear of the death penalty and those who have committed murder would…

When it comes to sentencing a juvenile who has committed a murder or heinous crime it all depends on the circumstances. There was a Supreme Court ruling stating that juveniles could not be charged with life sentencing because they felt as if this was violating the Eighth Amendment on cruel and unusual punishment. Marjie Lundstrom, Paul Thompson, and Gail Garinger agree with the Supreme Court ruling of not giving life sentences to children, Lundstrom feels if they think a juvenile is old enough to be charged as an adult then maybe they should lower the voting age to fourteen and Garinger feels that when sentencing juveniles to life in prison they’re also being denied access to a better education and left lost and hopeless and Thompson feels…

Moreover, there is a tremendous contrast of price tags between capital punishment and a life sentence without parole. In some cases, the costs of executing a defendant triples the regular cost of life in jail. For the reason being there are extended procedures, higher cost of trials and heavier lawyer fees, an upsetting and excessive amount of money taken from the pockets of taxpayers. That is to say it is estimated to cost three million dollars for the average death penalty and by eliminating it and opting for life sentences would save hundreds millions dollars annually in which can then be devoted to other areas such as healthcare or education. Despite the price we pay for the sustenance of the system, it does not impede crime rates and contrary…

According to JFA (Justice for All) estimates that life without parole cases will cost $1.2 million to $3.6 million more than equivalent to death penalty cases. In addition, Edwin H. Sutherland President of the American Sociological Society, argued that it’s not cheaper to keep a criminal confined, most of the time the prisoner will cost as much as a convict under death penalty, due to the care that has be given to the prisoners for all the years that they will be imprisoned. (Sutherland 1974) With time, life without parole cases are much more expensive than death penalty cases. Not only is much cheaper in the long run, but it keeps safe American citizens from murderers.…

I will present some views and personal opinion dealing with the pros and cons of the death penalty. I don’t know really if I would be a person that would support the death penalty or not. I do feel that murdering someone is wrong, and since no one really close to me has never been murdered. I don’t know if my feeling would change as being a supporter for the death penalty or not. I can only pray that God will help this county to make the right choices when comes to life or death.…

The price that taxpayers have to pay for execution is much lower than the price they have to pay for life in prison. Capital punishment is fair because they have caused so much pain and they deserve the same fate as their victim had. The Death penalty may cause future generations and current generations to view murder differently and teach them a lesson. No one should ever view human life as an object you can just steal from others. The criminal deserves to die for what he did to his victim. That is equal; equal for the criminal, equal for the family, and most of all equal for the…

This is true for several different reasons. Life without parole cases usually stay in prisons for about thirty to forty years. This costs the American tax payers anywhere from $1.2 million to $3.6 million for each case (Lowe). On the other hand, death penalty cases cost around $34,200 (Lowe). In both instances, it costs American tax payers money; nevertheless, capital punishment is significantly cheaper than life without parole. The American people should not have to pay for violent murderers to live when they have committed such vulgar crimes and do not even deserve this allowance in the first…
