Pros And Cons Of Health Insurance
Do We Need National Health Insurance? For some time now, Americans have been wanting to switch to a universal health care system. A healthcare system where all Americans will have access to the proper health care that is affordable and fits their needs. Some solutions that can be implemented are replacing for-profit insurance companies, reforming the health care system, and hiring insurance companies that have slow cost growths. These are excellent solutions because there are a substantial number of Americans who do not have health insurance and desperately need it. However, we should not put a national health care system into effect because our current health care system is in a corrupt state and has to be addressed before we can move forward.
Background Information

To begin with, the majority of insurance companies are privately owned and this allows companies to set their own rules and causes health insurance to become unaffordable. First, companies “maximize premiums and

These pros and cons definitely need to be considered before implementing a universal health care system. One advantage is the fact that everyone will be able to receive health care. This benefits not only citizens, but physicians as well. According to Crone (2010, p.171), “Doctors and dentists would deal with one bureaucracy rather than fifty government bureaucracies and many insurance bureaucracies.” This will relieve so much stress for doctors because they will not have to talk to several insurance companies about what services they will cover for their patients. Another advantage is that there will be a reduction in health care costs. According to ProCon.org (2015), “healthcare spending could be lowered by $592 billion and up to $1.8 trillion over the next decade.” This is an exceptional advantage because it could reduce the national deficit and the money could be used elsewhere to help the

As mentioned in the previous discussion, the ACA law remains a highly controversial subject among government officials, as well as, American citizens. The ACA has induced changes in the effect and availability of affordable health insurance and access to care. According to Whitman, the fact that the ACA law ever passed Congress is an accomplishment in itself (n.d., Slide 40). However, the ACA has also generated both disadvantages and advantages since its induction, which is to be expected with the enactment of any new law into the American society.…

One of the good things to getting Universal Healthcare would be saving many peoples lives. About 40% of people are uninsured by bringing this they would be able to go to the doctors and get the help they need. Right now many people do not go to the doctors or hospital because they are not insured and may not be able to afford to pay the medical bills. A study in 2009 by Harvard researches had said that the, "lack of healthcare insurances is associated with as many as 44,789 deaths per year." Also, another study is that countries with Universal Healthcare the people there live 2-3 years more, than countries that do not.…

Implementation of universal access to health care is recommended because access to health care is correlated with lower prevalence of chronic diseases (see Table 1). While I recommend implementation of universal access to health care, I do not find it politically feasible in the US’s current political landscape; the push from Congress to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act, as well as the essential removal of penalty for not having health insurance, make it unlikely that Congress would suddenly approve a bill mandating health care for all. Adoption of low out-of-pocket caps for co-payment, co-insurance, and prescriptions are recommended as users of the US health care system may be more likely to utilize the system for acute and chronic conditions if they know it will be affordable. However, I do not find this politically feasible since this mandate would possibly raise taxes for all and curtail profits from insurance companies, providers, drug manufacturers, and biomedical equipment manufacturers; it is unlike a Republican-majority Congress to hike taxes or curb capitalism. A greater involvement of local government in health care delivery is recommended, as it allows the system to be…

Secondly, along with being available to everyone, universal health care would prevent the insurance companies from denying care. According to CNBC one of the largest insurance company denied care to half a million people in a two year span due to pre existing conditions (CNBC, 2010). In large insurance companies workers are expected to deny a certain amount of people each year and in some cases receive a bonus if they deny the most people. In the documentary SiCKO one worker from the health insurance company of HUMANA told Michael Moore about the expectations of the doctors and when she started she was told she, “had to keep a 10% denial” in the same statement she said explained how she would get a report showing her denial rate compare…

Early in this century, the Congress played a big role suggesting having plans to provide universal health coverage. Worrying portion of population still lacked on basic healthcare coverage which it’s become economically alarming. This proposal is merely based on allowing the population to have accessible and affordable health assistance when needed. Many opposed to this proposal for the simple fact of becoming more responsible to provide this benefit to more people than planned. “…Most everyone in healthcare knows the infamous quality/cost equation: the lower the cost and the higher the quality, the higher the value” (Scheurer). Also, hospitals were interested due to the fact they face major complications…

The idea of universal Healthcare could encourage entrepreneurship which many people see as a benefit. When people leave their previous employer to start their own business they leave a hole in their position. This can have a negative effect their previous employer’s business. Additionally very few small businesses make it past the first two years of ownership and it leads them back into the need for employment in a larger business. Another convenience to having universal Healthcare would be equal access to Healthcare for all United States citizens. Although there is no human life more significant than another there are still people who need medical care more than others. When everyone has the same access to Healthcare this again would lead to longer wait times for those who are in serious need of care. Simply by providing people universal access to Healthcare would not motivate people to make the decisions needed to conduct a healthier lifestyle. People are still going to drink, smoke, and eat unhealthily despite their access to free…
