It is a real shame that just one word can influence the way someone looks at someone else. This does not just apply to just students with disabilities though, it occurs with people in general anyway. An example of that would to describe someone as uneducated or poor you immediately look at them differently and that is just the way society has developed and made people look at others. It is sad to think how just one word can alter someone else’s perception of another person. Labeling a student as a “special ed kid” does affect them and their self-perception. They may get on their head that a “special ed kid” is bad and then they will never strive for more. Just because they may go to another class does not mean they lack the same skills, it just means they need a little more instruction. There is nothing wrong with being a “special ed kid” it is a shame that society has labeled that as a bad thing. Labeling has become an issue in society today and changes the way people look at someone they do not know. Hopefully one day labeling will not be a thing anymore and people with disabilities will not have to worry about breaking
