Pros And Cons Of Off-Road Organizers
The organizers were knowledgeable and included an off-road expert. They guided us through the trails telling us where to position our tires and how to navigate the terrain, and consequently made sure all of us felt safe in this new type of driving environment. This was so different than any other type of driving I’ve done in driving tours, rally’s or at a DE. I had fun and learned some things about my car that I didn't realize it could do! I now feel better prepared to drive my car in almost any type of situation that nature, adventure outings, or traffic could throw at me.

I want to express my gratitude and share my ride-a-long experience. The first thing I had to do was contact the Colorado Springs Stetson Hills Area Command to schedule my ride-along. I read the department's ride-along program policy and I received instructions on what I had to do to fulfill the necessary program requirements. Once the initial paperwork was done, a few signatures, a waiver and a criminal background check, I was ready to go.…

The role of a Driver Trainer often brings you into close contact with small groups of learners, in a closed and personal environment and for extended periods of time. The need to create an open and relaxed environment is important, especially during ERDT, but this could lead to a blurring of boundaries between teacher and learner. It is important that you are aware of this and maintain the authority to be able to control situations safely when teaching in a moving vehicle environment.…

Certain areas of the ground were covered with snow while others led to huge drop-offs. We were told that if we looked as far as the eye can see in the given direction, we could see all the way out to Kansas. The rest stop was known for its specialty high-altitude cake doughnuts, which tasted similarly to how I imagine a sausage-pancake hybrid to be. My brother came down with altitude sickness at this point and he had to rest on the way back down. Overall, it was a great experience full of quirks and I’d do it again tomorrow if I could.…

We were all geared up and ready to start our trail down the mountainous slopes. I tried to veer off from the group director to try to stand over the edge of a canyon but it was heavily fenced. The top part of the canyons were viewable but the wall did a great job of restricting the rest of the view. Anxiously, I was walked to the inside of the orientation building. There, the supervisors went over plenty…

Drivers have misunderstood “experience” for knowledge. They have been driving for an x number of time and seems to have been probably lucky enough to not been involved in anything serious or dangerous. Their limited skill level can cope with the ordinary. Therefore, their level of driving knowledge and skill will suffice until a crisis happens. In general, people have been surviving day to day with their mediocre skills only because an event that requires advanced skills and knowledge has yet to rear its ugly head. If they are not prepared for a crisis while driving, they simply don’t know how to react to one. It is the equivalent of thinking. There was something she could have done if only she had more…
