Safety on the road is stressed throughout the day with specific time set aside to review defensive driving principles. After the classroom training, each candidate is paired with a seasoned driver advisor who spends a full day with them on the road carrying passengers. The driver advisor stresses the importance of safety throughout the day and has the final say if the candidate can pass the course and become a driver partner. Drivers also receive refresher training on a quarterly bases, generally delivered in an online…
The narrative, The Driver’s Seat struck home for me because I just received my driver’s license this past May, 2015. I took time for me to actually drive and to become comfortable behind the wheel of a car. This piece of writing spoke to me and allowed me to review some of the identical thinking points that I went through while getting to the point of taking control of my dad’s car. The story effectively walked me through the trials of spirit and mental anguish that preceded me in taking hold of the vehicle with my dad as the co-pilot giving directions. This was the exact thing the driving instructor in The Driver’s Seat‘ taught the author. The routine of how to maneuver and throw caution to the wind- taking risks- to get the author over…
Instructing, coaching and assessing in the driver training sector can present many challenges and variants when interacting with learners on a day to day basis. Training scenarios can greatly differ in their aim, practical application or severity of risk assessment and your involvement can then vary to include the protection of personal information, development of training materiel or direct contact with individuals. You…
Young or inexperienced drivers can’t afford to divide their attention between the road and their passengers. Passengers may also encourage the driver to show off and take risks. A study showed that young drivers with more than one peer passenger in the car were 15 times more likely to have an accident than when driving alone (Transport Roads and Maritime Services 2013a).…
Many Albertans and fellow Canadians may agree that driving is an act of responsibility and maturity. Giving out licenses to teenagers, who tend to make risky and thoughtless decisions, is something the country should considered prohibiting. Due to such careless actions, crash rates are much higher for younger drivers than older, more experienced ones. The increase in fatality for teen drivers may be highly influenced by the lack of wearing seat belts, and their tendency to speed more. Not only are they creating a huge risk for themselves, but also for others around them. The driving age limit in Alberta, as well as in Canada, should be raised to eighteen to ensure the safety of other citizens and teens themselves. By decreasing the rate of accidents, preventing recklessness and carelessness on the roads, and lastly ensuring that all laws are obeyed when driving, may be a step towards the right direction of creating a safer community, and more manageable society.…
One of the last things anyone wants to worry about or even think about is getting into an accident on the road. To make matters worse, no one wants to get into a head-on collision with a truck. Now before…
In addition, we will also be offered with cheap car insurance if we are being regarded as safe drivers. This is because we will have fewer chances to make insurance claims if we drive safely. To ensure that we are driving safely, we can always take defensive driving courses to upgrade our driving skills to a better stage. We can also try preventing ourselves from involving in accidents and breaking the rules to have good driving records.…
Now that I know the difference between at risk drivers and safe drivers, I will try to control my judgement, self control, and emotions while driving. By doing this, I can…

For a population that has enjoyed the personal freedom the automobile offers, a potential danger looms. (Special Report)." AutoWeek 57.14 (April 2, 2007): 20. Student Edition. Thomson Gale. Normally, a person’s main concern is their own wellbeing. However, once a driver gets behind the wheel he/she is now responsible for the lives of the other drivers and…
People 65 years and older represent 13 percent of the population in America and 17 percent of all motor vehicle deaths. The age of senior citizen drivers is a serious national concern. I believe that everyone would agree that drivers need additional skills and knowledge to compensate for decreased abilities that are due to aging. The aging progression can potentially reduce a driver's capability to deal with traffic incidents both physically and mentally, and can also increase the seriousness of injuries that occur when in a motor vehicle…
Kurt Vonnegut (1996), in his essay “How to write with Style” advised writers to choose a subject that interest them. I chose the essay “Effective Driving” by Olenewa (2008) because I share with this writer the fascination of perfect driving. In this essay, Olenewa mentioned the criteria by which a person can be considered as a professional driver. As driving is one of our daily routines, we can’t live without it, mastering it is one of the important life issues. Therefore, we have to give it a great deal of attention. It is a double-edged sword, if we don’t deal with it in a careful way, it might lead to devastating results. I strongly agree…
In today’s society automobile accidents are an everyday occurrence. Mishaps can happen anywhere at any given time. In the past ten years accidents have averaged around ten million occurring for each year (US Census Bureau). That is 100 million automobile accidents in ten years. Most people would automatically point their fingers at young drivers in today’s world. A number of accidents are caused by teens though I believe a worse threat is starting to appear. This threat being elderly drivers over the age of 70. These elderly drivers could be considered dangerous due to their decline in sensory. With more elderly drivers increasing over the years, drivers everywhere could be in danger. Within the next 20 years the number of elderly drivers is expected to triple in the United States (Older Drivers). To combat this the solution is simple which is to make elderly drivers retake a driver course test.…
Inexperience: Inexperience can cause accidents because people don’t know what they are doing and therefore can panic and cause collisions or can drive too fast for their skill level and cause collisions in that way. The worst thing people can do is drive to slow for example if someone is driving to slow they could merge into a roadway driving to slow and be rear ended. There have been many occurrences of people driving with inexperience and causing collision due to it. The easiest way to reduce collisions caused by inexperienced drivers is to have them start on a private road and a parking lot until they are comfortable in the vehicle then having them start driving in different conditions until they are comfortable enough to try driving with varying levels of traffic.…
