School Internet Censorship: Protected or Freedom?
As of 2013, 71 percent of the United States population age three and over use the internet on a daily basis (“Fun Facts”). This time allows people to look at anything they want. They can find almost everything and anyone within minutes. They can steal identities, make bombs, and find anyone’s personal information at any given time. Many of the people that use the internet are children and teens. Children and teens should know internet safety to protect themselves, especially since you can find almost everything on the internet. Controlling the internet will lessen the victims and punish the violators ("11 Chief Pros and Cons of Internet Censorship”). Students are blocked from using sexual websites or related searches on school technology. This keeps them out of trouble and safe. The internet contains personal information and harmful information to many students. Students could have another classmate’s personal information within seconds. That means that within seconds any bad, harmful person could have this information. Schools need to use the internet censorship the way students are completed protected on the school grounds while being at school away from their parents. Students could be victims of sex trafficking and pornography at any time of their lives. The censorship can decrease the amount of this happening on school grounds.The school internet restrictions are good for students because it keeps them safe from bad things happening to them. However, many students are old enough to make their own decisions and express themselves freely. Many of the students do this through the internet and social media. (“Censorship in Schools Pros and Cons List”). Students argue that the blocking off social media and other websites is unnecessary, but it keeps them under control. The censorship allows prevents bullying and the spread of rumors, which is why it is much needed.
To improve succession in the classroom, students need to stay focused, and use the internet filtering system to keep them off of harmful websites and sources that they can use against other classmates. Multiple reasons are given out in the world to use the internet censorship to keep students safe and on track educationally. The government should enforce the law of internet censorship as it does not affect freedom of speech.
