Thermosetting Polymers
Material – Epoxy Resin
Application – epoxy resin is used in adhesive (Araldite) and in the production of laminates and reinforced plastic composites. It is also used to coat the inside of food cans.
Properties – it has good heat resistance and is hardwearing, it is formed by mixing together liquid resin and hardener to trigger cross-linking, it also is not harmful to humans which is why we use it to coat are food cans.
Advantages – it is not harmful to humans so can come in contact with are food and has high mechanical and thermal properties and is water resistance.
Disadvantages – it can be expensive and requires critical mixing.
