Protecting Health Safety And Wellbeing Analysis
Protecting health, safety and wellbeing
In the workplace, you are in a position of trust in relation to all service users. It is important to understand that not all service users can protect themselves from abuse and neglect therefore they would be vulnerable and you have to make sure that the service user is not being exploited or unjustly treated. You should always be able to tell your manager how you have made sure that your actions were safe and anything that you say to the service user was warranted. If your actions are not safe or warranted the service user might become nervous and would feel vulnerable as they would feel that the staff member is not doing what is right and this can mean that you would not be taking care of the service

At the Cherry Trees Children’s Centre, the safety of the children was not the priority when they were climbing on the climbing frames. When a child fell the volunteer who was supervising the session checked her leg and said that there was no damage even though when the girl’s mother took her to the hospital and found that her child had broken her leg.

If you do not follow the workplace policies, the service users may feel that they are not in a safe environment as you would not be following the rules that should be in place in the care setting. Workplace policies are for the benefit of your employing organisations the service user

The training should allow you to have a knowledge of the fundamental health and safety procedures for your workplace so that you can practice and promote safe working procedures. You should set and maintain high standards of care for yourself and others and you should also adopt and promote a culture of safe practice. It is important to use constructive criticism to improve your professional practice and you must work as a team to make sure that the practices are correct for the workplace you are in. The Cherry Trees Children’s Centre did not have the safety that was needed because they knew that there were cracks in the metal tubes that formed the structure of the frame and this should have been fixed before the children were allowed to play on the structure. They would have to make sure that they make sure that there are no sharp objects around on the floor where the children are playing because they could trip, fall and injure themselves. The girl that fell from the climbing frame was not checked properly as they were told that they had just grazed their leg but in fact they had broken it. The health and safety at this time was not correct because the adults who were there were volunteers who had not been told about the safety regulations

Within my work setting we follow The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974. It is the employer’s duty to put policies and procedures into place to ensure that the setting is meeting the standards of The Health and Safety at Work Act and the employee’s duty to make sure these are followed. We follow this act by making sure that the building and environment is well maintained, clean and safe. Equipment is stored properly and is regularly checked to ensure it is safe. Hazardous materials and equipment is locked away and we follow the COSHH act. We have systems in place to ensure the safety of children at all times i.e. fire procedure, accident and illness procedure. We provide adequate facilities to suit the needs and abilities of all children and young people and all members of staff are qualified, CRB checked and given regular training. Gloves and aprons are worn at all times when dealing with bodily fluids to prevent cross-infection. All accidents and incidents are recorded are reported to the correct person. Practitioners are first aid qualified and are able to deal with minor injuries within the setting. First aid boxes and fire extinguishers are in every room along with a fire whistle to alert other rooms of a fire. We have a health and safety officer who oversees the running of the setting and ensures that risk assessments are regularly carried out and updated. Staff members are given guidance on…

To establish and maintain a safe, healthy learning environment I model safety practices and healthy routines in an environment that supports development and growth in these areas. My goal is to provide a clean healthy environment that meets each child’s physical needs. Making sure the classroom and playground are clean and safe at all times reduces the number of injuries of children while they are in my care. One of the ways I do this is by supervising children at all times by sight and sound even during nap times. Making sure all outlets are covered so children can’t access them. I make sure inside as well as outside there is nothing children can harm themselves on such as sharp objects or small items they can choke on. I ensure that all chemicals and cleaning supplies are put away out of the reach of children or stored in locked cabinets. I am certified in First Aid and CPR, which makes me knowledgeable of caring for accidents or injuries.…

Having a duty of care should guarantee the safeguarding and protection of service users in my care. We all have to be crb checked to check on our past history. We have codes of practice to follow within the company and all staff do have training. I.e. giving medication all meds are locked away and can only be given by certain staff. We have a safe for their personal belonging and any money they want us to look after. We carry out risk assessments on all things like helping them to cook and to go out on activities. Duty of care is looking after yourself, your work colleagues and service user while at work, it’s just like the way the look after your own family as you would not put them in arms way. ‘Duty of Care’ means providing care and support for individuals within the law and also within the policies, procedures and agreed ways of working of your employer.
