In the workplace, you are in a position of trust in relation to all service users. It is important to understand that not all service users can protect themselves from abuse and neglect therefore they would be vulnerable and you have to make sure that the service user is not being exploited or unjustly treated. You should always be able to tell your manager how you have made sure that your actions were safe and anything that you say to the service user was warranted. If your actions are not safe or warranted the service user might become nervous and would feel vulnerable as they would feel that the staff member is not doing what is right and this can mean that you would not be taking care of the service …show more content…
At the Cherry Trees Children’s Centre, the safety of the children was not the priority when they were climbing on the climbing frames. When a child fell the volunteer who was supervising the session checked her leg and said that there was no damage even though when the girl’s mother took her to the hospital and found that her child had broken her leg.
Ensuring safe practice
In any care setting that you are working you have to make sure that you put all of the workplace policies that are set by your employing organisation into practice. The training should allow you to have a knowledge of the fundamental health and safety procedures for your workplace so that you can practice and promote safe working procedures. You should set and maintain high standards of care for yourself and others and you should also adopt and promote a culture of safe practice. It is important to use constructive criticism to improve your professional practice and you must work as a team to make sure that the practices are correct for the workplace you are in. The Cherry Trees Children’s Centre did not have the safety that was needed because they knew that there were cracks in the metal tubes that formed the structure of the frame and this should have been fixed before the children were allowed to play on the structure. They would have to make sure that they make sure that there are no sharp objects around on the floor where the children are playing because they could trip, fall and injure themselves. The girl that fell from the climbing frame was not checked properly as they were told that they had just grazed their leg but in fact they had broken it. The health and safety at this time was not correct because the adults who were there were volunteers who had not been told about the safety regulations
