Proud of Being an Indian
I am an Indian and what am I proud of? What if I were to list five points? umm...., *India's diversity in flora and fauna (just a while before it reads only flora)
*Cultural differences (toooooooo many really)
*Tourism spots??(I must have visited ,what, five or six of them?...the foreigners know them better!)
*Growing Economy (growing since God knows when?:S)
*Indian Cricket! (the real pride of the Indians) Something we have been writing since decades in essays? India is perhaps the world's largest developing country. I don't know when we shall be classified as a developed one. When one compares India to the United States of America or the United Kingdom or russia, it will always remain developing, I fear. It is because Indians that can make a difference are not in India. India is severely lacking in a strong backbone comprised of accomplised, educated and hard working citizens, who are now living abroad in one of those developed countries. I am aware that India has its own priced possessions (Reliance, Tata, Raymond, HCL, Maruti Udyog etc.). Even so, we are yet to walk away with a victory in the International RACE. The fact that India is a developing country does not lie in just that. We are recognised for being the world's largest population, behold, we even topped the list of countries with largest murder count this year and we are a hotspot for terrorist activities. With such drawbacks, a weak government (that announces rise in prices of almost every commodity. Good heavens, my parents cannot stop cribbing about that!) running the world's largest democracy and a lethargic police force (Aarushi's case and several others prove just how ineficient and incompetent they can be), what can an Indian expect? Wouldn't Indians rather choose to live a much more comfortable life that marks lesser danger (reminder: Mumbai blasts 1993, Western Railway bombings 2006 etc.) and earns them better money for the same amount of work done? Even worse: Being Indians

We Indians boast about unity in diversity as we have many varieties of religions, castes and communities but do we really appreciate and embrace this difference? The answer is a big no. We, in our school textbooks, read about this and discuss this very briefly but what we fail to do is to analyse the present situation. Today I saw a documentary on honor killings. Honor killings are done under the name of protecting the caste name.…

India restricts Indian society. According to “Wikipedia; Caste system in India”, caste system affects a lot of people with choosing their profession or even having any options at all. The importance of caste system in India is not only restricting its economy, it is also restricting its population’s freedom. Indians living in areas where the caste system plays a big role, most commonly don't know themselves, their talents and what they like to do. Even if they knew themselves and what they would want to be, they wouldn't have an option to change their career path. Because…

India, despite all glorious statistics and rankings, today is a part of the league of third world nations. Do cite a very clear definition of global economies; first world countries are the developed capitalist countries where we place US, Russia. Second world countries are the socialist economies, China being the best example of the same. Third world countries are the developing and the least developed nations of the world. India is a part of this list with African, Asian, Latin American nations falling in queue too. Through this article I’ll first throw light on the major challenges that keep India in the Third world league and simultaneously talk about the constructives that can overturn our years’ long efforts of waving the ‘developed’ flag.…

Let’s pause here for a moment and ponder over the fact that for once, a majority does not figure in the making of a sensibility, that is India. It is imminent that we then question what is national identity. Is it what we are, what we accept we are or the face we show the world? For the moment let us consider the utopian “what we are”. What binds us and makes us people of one nation despite myriad similarities and dissimilarities.…

India is surrounded by every possible social, economical and political issue along huge potential. The president of the USA, Barak Obama in his recent visit to India said that India is not developing, it is developed. Indeed India is a developed nation if we look into the GDP, government expenditure, few metro cities and life style of a branch of rich people. The people of India have built a strong image in the mind of foreigners who does not have access to the internal situation of this romantic country. It is accepted by all that this nation holds huge amount of capability for development. Lord Meghnad Desai, who argued, not without irony, that whatever else happens, “the government can still sit back and say 8.6 per cent”.…
