Psalm 23: 1-6 (King James version) says “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.” Thus stating to the reader that the Lord is your God and you should not need any other. He will lead and guide you to live in his image and likeness. Even in the darkest of times, you should not be afraid because you know that the Lord will always be there to protect you. The blessings of God will be there forever as long as you believe in him.
Matthew 6: 24-30 (part of The Sermon on the Mount) states that “No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.” This serves as an argument that you should focus on serving the Lord, not on having wealth and property. You should not worry about materialistic things because they …show more content…
are not important. What is important is that you have a strong relationship with God because he will always provide for you if you have faith in him. Worrying about materialistic things such as clothes will only make you unhappy in the long run because you will spend so much time worrying about those things that you will not have enough time for God.
These two scriptures have different immediate focuses.
Psalm 23 focuses more on telling you how God will guide you and provide for you. However, Matthew 6: 24-30 focuses on teaching you to learn how to trust God and knowing that you are worth it to God to be provided for. Psalm 23 is written from the perspective of someone who already has unwavering faith in the Lord. Matthew 6:24-30 is a persuasive statement to people of little faith. Even though these two scriptures have their differences, they are very similar. Both of these two scriptures focus on knowing that God is always there for you when you need him. They also tell you that God will provide you what you need, and that you should always have faith in
him.
Through their similarities and differences, these scriptures provide us with the knowledge that we should learn to trust in the Lord. By trusting in God, in turn we learn to put faith in others and focus more on the larger things in life, like happiness. By putting God first in our lives, we can come to realize that money and possessions can never compare to having a good relationship with the Lord and all of the graces that come with that relationship.
