Pseudolus Play Vs Movie Essay
The plot of Pseudolus written by the playwright Plautus was already a delight to read before experiencing how the story had inspired this film. Although there were some variations in comparing the written version to the film version, both had the same plot in which a cunning slave is in charge of reuniting two lovers back together. Watching the film, I really appreciated the amount of comedy enriched within the lines. We have seen and read many depressing stories in class so it was a nice change to lighten up the food. My favorite scene was the “Soothsayer” scene in which the house was mistaken to be haunted and Psuedolus disguised himself as a soothsayer yelling random gibberish. It was random moments like these that made me laugh and appreciate …show more content…
Maximus was a character I really felt for as he had went through many struggles and had to end up dying in the end as well. During his struggles, he managed to become a powerful figure of his time, leaving behind a legacy that would continue to inspire people. I really enjoyed the visuals in this especially the beginning of the movie with the war scene. The fighting was very fast-paced and the environment was ever-changing with different characters displaying different talents. Commodus was a character I really liked as I felt he was really good with playing a villainous character. Throughout the plot, Commodus never gave up in fulfilling his plans. He murders his own father in an act of rage, sentences Maximus to punishment of death, orders Maximus’ Spanish estate farm to be destroyed, orders Maximus’ family to be killed, uses his own nephew as hostage to gain information against Maximus’ plans, and stabs Maximus’ at the end to gain an unfair handicap advantage in the colosseum battle. Already, I could tell there truly is no limit to his actions in the film and I thought the actor did a wonderful job in playing an ambitious villain. Adding on, the plot of the movie since the colosseum onwards really reminded me of Spartacus. Maximus and Spartacus are really similar in terms of their strength, spirit, and the respect they earned from people around them. They both become gladiators without their will and prove themselves

The Outsiders is both a great book and a great movie. Although they are both very great, they are not completely the same, or completely different. A book that turns into a movie usually has way more information because the person writing the book isn’t just going to make it a movie line for line. The movie “The Outsiders” doesn’t work like that though. The book and the movie are about as close to line for line as you can possibly get. They have to add some scenes in movie to explain the thinking of the characters, but they also have to subtract scenes from the book to shorten the movie. The book, The Outsiders, and the movie, “The Outsiders,” are alike in many ways.…

By currently taking this History & Philosophy of Sports class, this film “Gladiator” establishes the whole scenery during the time period of ancient Rome. In the film, it introduced Gladiator battles. These Gladiator battles reflected as entertainment to society, as well as, being a survival setting between life and death. Not only they would compete for survival, but they would compete to become the best. By this time, Commodus, is the new Roman emperor and he fears that Maximus could use his heroic ability to dethrone him and become emperor himself. Maximus would use his fame and popularity as a gladiator to invoke further damage to Commodus' insecure dominance of the devoted Roman people, hoping to influence them to restore their lost values and overcome the corruption that…

During class, my group discussed how watching the film Fences changed our understanding for the play Fences. We discussed that throughout the movie, the dialogue flowed smoother compared to trying to understand and read it in play form. We also discussed how the movie brought out more raw emotions throughout the characters which made them more likeable on the screen than they appeared on paper. Our example is Troy; he seems like a horrible person and an unlikable guy reading the play but in the movie, his personality portrayed by actor Denzel Washington makes him a very likable guy despite his actions. Also, the theme of baseball is shown more than the play with the visual representation of the baseball on a rope swinging from the tree. In…

The movie’s plotline still loosely follows the series of events that actually took place but has changed quite a lot of the facts. Gladiator warps the facts here because Marcus Aurelius supposedly was murdered by Commodus on the eve of this victory but Aurelius in fact passed away before going out to claim another land. Marcus did conquer many tribes and lands as emperor but did not in fact have a legendary general named “Maximus Decimus Meridius”. The events that actually took place in our historical timeline involve Marcus Aurelius passing away but not at the hand of his son Commodus. The official story states that Aurelius died from plague but some suspect that he was in fact murdered by Commodus. According to historical sources, Commodus was in fact a man of ill worth but Aurelius did give Commodus succession to the…

A Streetcar Named Desire, written by Tennessee Williams, debuted in New York as a Broadway play on December 3, 1947. The success of this play established Williams among the most respected and influencing playwrights in modern theater. Only four years after its Broadway debut, Williams’ play was adapted into a film; Williams worked hands on with director Elia Kazan to create the 1951 film adaptation A Streetcar Named Desire. Though the two adaptations have similar literary elements, and Kazan worked collaboratively with Williams the audiences still see stark differences between the two.…

After watching the movie, viewing the play and reading the text it can be concluded that the play best portrayed the experience Shakespeare had intended for his audience. The play was incomparable to the other mediums of A Midsummer Night’s Dream because of its authenticity. Although the movie had a various number of negatives, it was a commendable representation of the story because of its style. Out of all the portrayals of the story, the text was the least pleasurable because its content did not appeal to the youths of our generation. Watching the movie, viewing the play and reading the text proved to be an awesome experience, but I enjoyed the play the best.…

Movie vs. Play Most parts of "A Midsummer Night's Dream," the movie, met my expectations. Many of the characters were well fitted to their part. Calista Flockheart was a great choice for an actress to portray Helena and her jealousy towards the beautiful Hermia. She played Helen's part just as I had imagined. Hermia, on the other hand, was not as well casted, in my opinion, because I expected Hermia to have long, straight hair not curly and short. Someone like Gwyneth Paltrow might've been more efficient. Both the actors for Demetrius and Lysander met my expectations somewhat. However, Lysander was more resembling to the Lysander I had imagined than Demetrius, because before actually watching the movie, I pictured Demetrius to be a blond. Therefore, an actor much like Matt Damon might've been better at this part; however, Christian Bale is accomplishing his role quite convincingly to change my mind. Theseus and Hippolyta were very well casted because in truth, while reading the play, I never really pictured their appearances to resemble anyone in particular; therefore, watching the movie really helped me to get an idea of how those two might look like. Bottom was greatly played since he was much like I pictured. So far, of all the fairies, I think Titania was characterized the best because she is beautiful and elegant like I had anticipated. Michelle Pfieffer plays Titania's part radiantly. Oberon and Puck were not as great because they gave me a dingy feeling and fairies are supposed to be "glowing." I did not understand why Puck had horns and I didn't think that really corresponds to the role of a fairy because it sort of gave a devilish feeling. However, I guess it was somewhat appropriate because Puck is supposed to be the "mischievous fairy." Plus, I totally did not picture Puck to be bald. I had imagined a cute little fairy with brown hair like Freddie Prinze Jr. Nonetheless, I believe all these characters just need a little getting used to. In general, I…
