To calculate the median we need to put the bottles of water in order from least to greatest. Next we need to count from least to greatest ten bottles, and then count ten bottles from greatest to least. Since there are thirty bottles of water we will two middle numbers. The two middle numbers that the data provided to us are 15.98 and 16.00. We need to calculate the mean of these two numbers by adding 15.98+ 16.00 and then dividing by two. The median of the thirty bottles of water is 15.99. This too is showing us there is less than sixteen ounces of water in our bottles. Third we will review the standard deviation of the thirty bottles of water. The standard deviation is a way of determining how far out the numbers is spread apart. To calculate the standard of deviation we need to take the ounces of each bottle of water subtract the average, square the answer and add to the next bottle of water until all thirty bottles of water have been calculated to determine the standard deviation. The standard deviation of the data provided is …show more content…
The hypothesis is a claim that needs to be investigated. In our case we are investigating if our bottles contain less than sixteen ounces of water. First we look at the NULL hypothesis, this is the established value that we accept to use as our parameter. (Ho) We know that sixteen ounces is our accepted parameter. Next we look at the alternative hypothesis. The alternative hypothesis is the claim being tested. (Ha) We start by knowing that there are two possible outcomes to conducting the Hypothesis they are: -Rejecting the null hypothesis -Fail to reject the null hypothesis
Ho :μ>16 oz
Ha : μ <16 oz
I had worker one pull ten bottles off of the shelves to measure the amount of water in each water bottle the mean was 14.34. The second worker pulled ten bottles off of the shelves and the mean of his bottles were 15.89. The remaining ten bottles averaged out at 15.93. These three instances show that the Hypothesis test failed to reject the null hypothesis. The testing that we have done to evaluate the amount of water in our bottles has determined that our customers are right there are less than sixteen ounces of water in our bottles and changes will be made to make sure that we are marketing our product
