Ethics Awareness Inventory Every individual have their own views and perspectives on ethics. Majority of the people understand and agree with what is right and wrong, but they may actually vary on how to make their own ethical and moral decisions in life. The ethical perspective of the author is clearly based on character. She also believes that being ethical is one of the more important than simply performing any ethical deed. To be able to determine the nature of people with an ethical standpoint, she mainly looks into the character of that person instead of judging them by their actions.

the Code of Conduct Over an individual’s lifespan it seems that personal ethics must be developed. An individual who plans on pursuing in the field of psychology must understand that when working with people their profession will continuously implement an ethical judgment. They must also understand that there is moral decision-making that is required of them and finally, they must be persistent in developing as well as evolving an understanding of morality. The development of these factors will never cease once it has been attained, but an individual must understand that this is an ongoing process that only becomes more engrained as that individual evolves. Within any profession, personal ethics are essential as well as being able to conduct ethically, that individual must be ethical. According to Plante (2011), “the American Psychological Association handles thousands of ethical infractions committed by psychologists each year.” Due to this, by developing a list of what may be appropriate behaviors, they are not fully able to aid in developing an individual’s personal morals and ethical judgments.
However, majority of the individuals who are being accused of ethical infractions are able to understand ethical behaviors by its rule, but they are not able to understand it by its essence. An individual without personal ethics, only has a rule-following to guide them through professional as well as ethical conduct. Individuals who are truly ethical view the written rules of a lesser quality than their ability of understanding …show more content…
ethics.
Effects of Ethical Applications The author believes that personal ethics have the ability to permeate one’s social, spiritual, and organizational endeavors. To be able to be authentic in a spiritual practice, the individual must have ethical goals instead of self-righteous goals, or they jeopardize have more of a spiritual understanding that cannot deepen. The author (of EAI) values integrity, honesty, and wisdom, but places more of an emphasis on an individual who behaves according to each one of these qualities more than rule-following. An individual is going to act according to their own intrinsic beliefs and values, as well as their behavior changing when their ethical understanding evolves. It has been more beneficial to be able to assist other individuals in being able to strengthen their own ability to be able to grasp the nature of integrity and wisdom then it is to pass judgment on ignorance. Within an organizational application, ethical and wisdom character that is applied to human diversity actually creates more interaction based on benevolence, integrity, honesty, and justice. According to ‘The Williams Institute’ (2011), “personal interaction with others encourages an individual to search for the goodness of character within all people” (p. 1). I feel that I have to be careful to not judge the growth and character of another individual. I must also be able to understand that not every person has had the opportunity to be able to develop the same ethics, virtues, and values that I have. According to ‘The Williams Institute’(2011), “social inequalities exist and tolerance, compassion, and an appreciation for diversity are necessary virtues when working with people” (p. 1). I am able to understand the neglect within character growth in a contemporary society.
Effects on Personal Growth, Health, and Development Within my own understanding, ethical behavior is evident within the quality of an individual’s character and that this is more important than his or her main actions. Personal growth does not just involve being able to learn how to follow rules, but we must be able to adhere to our own experiences of morality. Due to the quality of human nature that is upon behavior, an individual must continuously be able to strive to not only be morally correct, but also have an ethical character. By maintaining our own health, this is a continuous balance between what an individual knows is right and also being able to foster growth in the areas of that individual’s weakness. Natural development occurs when an individual is able to understand what is morally good. Ethical values actually begin with the thoughts of an individual and will continue to be mastered as their personal growth, health, thoughts, and development become more of a natural process.
Advantages of a Psychology Degree I feel that there are many reasons to pursue any sort of degree within psychology. I don’t feel that my decision in pursuing a psychology degree had much to do with ethics, but more with being able to understand other’s and being able to help them understand their selves as well. With taking so many classes, I have learned that by becoming more ethical is more superior to learning the appropriate as well as ethical behaviors that are required of me. With having an undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice and hopes in pursuing a Master’s in Forensic Psychology, I feel that I have gained more of an understanding of not just ethics, but tolerance, diversity, and compassion. I feel that it is important to have an understanding of what ethical means and that we must at all times present a code of conduct to any members of any fields. Not all psychologists or people are able to fully understand the essence of what being ethical is about and that is why it is important for individuals who understand to help the individuals who do not understand.
Conclusion
To understand personal ethics, principles, and moral judgment supports the ability to be able to function in any professional capacity, more so within the psychological disciplines.
The degree in which an individual is able to become ethical actually dictates the level that the individual is able to function with the discipline in either personal, social, spiritual, and organizational issues. Ethics have the ability to support not only psychological knowledge, but personal growth, health, and development. Individuals who choose to pursue a career in psychology will have a deeper understanding of ethics and the capacity to be able to function ethically and morally. Pappajohn (n.d.) explained that, “regardless of career or educational direction, it is the responsibility of each person to act and make judgments according to his or her evolving understanding of morality” (p.
1).
