1. It's obvious that the woman has sliced and artery on her wrist, one easy sign to see is the bright red blood spurting out of her wound. I would have to say this is very severe injury. 2. I would immediately start applying a sterile dressing to the wound.…

The method of skeptical inquiry or way by which Pyrrhonian skeptics bring themselves to withhold assent to every non evident proposition is known as the modes of suspension of judgment. There are five such modes that Sextus provides and they are based on: Discrepancy, regress ad infinitum, relativity, hypothesis and circular reasoning. (Empiricus, 165–169) The modes are designed to assist Pyrrhonian skeptics in in continuing their inquiry by guarding themselves from the disquieting state of dogmatism. For the sake of argument, suppose there is a dogmatist who believes that P. In order to avoid the snares of dogmatism, the Pyrrhonian skeptic would resort to withhold assent about P. According to the mode deriving from discrepancy, due to an undecidable…
Throughout the course of time, many philosophers, dogmatic religions and even individual human beings themselves have tried to prove the existence of God. The recurrent question that constantly arises is whether or not you can prove the existence of God solely by rational thinking alone. To that, the answer is no. It is not possible to prove the existence of God solely by rational thinking as you also need to incorporate aspects of faith, but rational thinking helps solidify your beliefs pertaining to God and leaves the answers we cannot conceive rationally up to faith. You cannot understand something outside of your existence rationally because you cannot experience it or see it; you can only theorize, believe and trust in it. You will never be able to reason what you have no knowledge of. In this essay, I will argue that in…
The issue of the effectiveness of vaccines has been a long standing debate. Whether vaccines have indeed saved humanity countless times or has been the medium through which companies such as AstraZeneca can instill disease and thus fear unto humans for profit is a controversial topic. The one contributor of society that one would find astonishing to find opposing vaccines is doctors. One such doctor that found, in his experience, vaccines to be ineffective and arguably harmful is Dr. Harold Moskowitz. In a detailed argument published in 1983 in the Journal of the American Institute of Homeopathy, Moskowitz uses detailed scientific evidence and personal anecdotes of cases he has handled to present his case on the ineffectiveness of vaccines. Moskowitz’s use of an amalgamation of substantial scientific evidence and personal anecdotes works to successfully reach the rational, ethical and emotional aspects of its readers in an effort to present an…
Residents near Kapiolani Park are outraged by the spraying of Ranger Pro, an herbicide containing glyphosate, an active ingredient shown to cause cancer in animals and damage human DNA. The Hawai’i News Now article, published on October 1st, 2016, stated that despite the herbicide being approved by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the World Health Organization recently designated glyphosate as "probably carcinogenic to humans." In 2014, the community held meetings with park officials to ban the use of Ranger Pro; however, the city continues to use Ranger Pro at parks and facilities around the island.…
As I enter into my second week in EDU605, I was given the opportunity to read and analyze an academic research paper that relates to differentiated instruction within my educational context. As I searched through articles and academic journals, I came across an interesting read. Charles Greenwood, Judith Carta, Howard Goldstein, Ruth Kaminski, Scott McConnell, and Jane Atwater presented their arguments on how the use of multi-tier approach to preschool language and early literacy instruction is the key for success for young learners who may be at risk.…
The State of Texas is known for their strict rules on voting rights for convicts these including those who are currently incarcerated and those individuals who are released, but on parole. However, ex-offenders who have completed their probation and parole regain their voting rights but would have to re-register. I believe the voting rights for prisoners and ex-convicts should be reformed and changed in the State of Texas. The reason I stand by this is because they’re still citizens of the United States of America.…
The topic of gun control is hotly debated today. 50 % of the population are for it, believing that having a gun provides them with protection. Because of various reasons the government aren’t able to protect us, which is why people look for other ways to stay safe. However a gun is still a weapon. Despite the fact that people want to have to be on the safe side there were many accidents were an innocent people end up hurt unintentionally. Since Obama took office in 2008 there’s been about 23 mass shootings (Grider, 2015), 62 shootings at schools, 12,223 people killed in gun incidents and 24, 722 people injured(Gunter, 2015). There’s been shootings in Washington D.C, North Carolina, California, etc.…
Freud believed that aggression was a normal but unconscious impulse that is repressed in well-adjusted people. However, if the aggressive impulse is particularly strong or repressed to an unusual degree, then some aggression can ‘leak’ out of the unconscious and the person may be aggressively against a random, innocent victim. Freud called this displaced aggression, and this theory might explain an attack of ‘senseless’ violence, labeling it as aggression that was too repressed and has broken through the surface. (Englander 73-4)…
Augmentative, that is the answer any of my family members would give if asked to described me in one word, well, that or annoying, but I would argue that in the eyes of many people they are synonyms… see!? I just cannot stop myself. This predisposition to argue is the dominant trait passed down to all male members of the Hernandez bloodline, we just cannot stop. If we see something we disagree with on any level, we will speak up. This love of rhetoric was what first drew me to this class. I wanted the ability, or at least the basis, to argue any point successfully, but like BuzzFeed would say “number 5 will shock you!” And, yes I was shocked. I always believed arguing was about destroying your ‘opponent’ to the point at which they would feel so foolish that they would have no recourse but to join your side, I was dead wrong. I quickly discovered through texts like The Medium Is the Message, that arguing is about getting your reader, or…
The psychiatrist must consider the appearance, the demeanour whether the patient is cooperative or not, the coherence of his thinking if the answer the patient is relevant to the question (abnormalities in speech and thinking),…
In America there are so many people who live without healthcare. President Obama has tried hard to change that known fact by introducing and passing his new Obama Care Act. It is very important for people to have proper healthcare coverage, medical care, affordable medications, and for all healthcare services to be available to everyone, whether they are poor, middle class or rich. For most Americans, high quality care generally is readily accessible without long waits but at high cost. However, the uninsured and, increasingly, the underinsured, the poor, and members of underserved minorities often have poor access to health care and poor health outcomes. The health workforce is well trained, yet the United States faces a severe shortage of primary care physicians. Approximately 45% of the U.S. population has a chronic medical condition, and about 60 million people, half of these, have multiple chronic conditions; the CDC estimated these numbers during a recent survey.…
When a child falls over in the middle of the street, do you help him? The normal response to this question on this question is “yes” and without empirical data, I think I can claim that far over 90% of the people will agree. It is the normal thing to do, regardless of external or internal motives or any other reasons of benefit for the individual. The question is, why? Clearly, the child is in need of help and you are able to provide it, regardless of circumstance. When taking a scientific approach however, the common sense explanation of “doing the normal thing” falls apart. Expected Utility Theory (EUT), also known as Standard Economic Theory (SET), explains this behavior as irrational for several reasons. For instance, people are supposed to always maximize pleasure, whereas helping someone shows no immediate “payoff” for the passerby. The same goes for the argument that humans will always optimize the reward to be gained by their actions, as they are limited in resources. When you consider for instance time a resource, it is…
Being a psychiatrist requires understanding, collaboration, and investigative qualities. According to onetonline, a psychiatrist must be able to “Gather and maintain patient information and records, including social or medical history obtained from patients, relatives, or other professionals.” This means that a good psychiatrist must keep a good track and investigation of patient records in able to make a good diagnosis. According to psychiatry.org, “The psychiatrist is thus the mental health professional and physician best qualified to distinguish between physical and psychological causes of both mental and physical distress.” This shows that a psychiatrist must be able to distinguish between mental and physical problems to be successful.…
